Honoring the Past ✨ With a home that dates back to the Revolutionary War, we wanted the design for the Greenleaf Reno to blend the old with the new. In the kitchen, we chose plumbing fixtures and hardware in unlacquered brass, which will age with the family over time. We salvaged select beams and reinstalled them in the kitchen while maintaining the modern ceiling height. Parts of the brick flooring were also reclaimed from the original house. Upstairs, we kept the original exposed beams and updated the skylights to brighten the primary bedroom and nursery. The bathroom vanity was designed to look more like a piece of furniture, enhancing the home’s curated, historic feel. For lighting, we avoided an abundance of direct can lighting, which felt too modern, and instead relied heavily on accent lighting. What's your favorite detail of this historic home remodel? Building up to create the perfect in-law suite addition ⬆️ In conjunction with a whole-home remodel, the Greenleaf Reno project also included a second-story addition. Our clients were looking to add extra square footage for relatives and guests to stay when visiting. To make this happen, we razed the attached garage down to the foundation and rebuilt it within the same footprint, this time with an additional living space above. The second floor features an open-concept living room and kitchenette, a bedroom with a full en-suite bathroom, a small office, and a pantry/laundry closet. Since our clients are transplants to the area, having a separate space for family and friends to stay when visiting was a game-changer. Introducing the Greenleaf Reno! After living in their historic Newburyport home for a few years, our clients learned what worked and what did not, and came to us to make the space their own. The original layout felt awkward and cramped, and the kitchen was especially small for a young family of four. They also wanted additional space for relatives and guests to stay when visiting. To start, we demolished the connecting garage down to the foundation and rebuilt it with a second-story, in-law suite addition. We later moved into the main house, removing several walls, a central fireplace, and a narrow staircase to expand the kitchen and open it up to the living room. On the second floor, we reconfigured the original primary suite footprint to also include a hallway, laundry room, and nursery. The end result was a beautifully remodeled home that blends the old with the new and better suits our clients’ lifestyle. We’re back at the Great Neck Pool House! 💦 To better enjoy their coastal location, our clients were looking to install a pool and a pool house on their Ipswich property. We approached this new build a little differently, using concrete walls built into the side of a hill. Most recently, the custom 18-ft-wide NanaWall doors have been installed, the bathroom tile is in place, and the drywall is up. A historic restoration, but make it modern 👌 While the design plan was to preserve and honor as much of the coach house's historic background as possible, we did need to bring the building into the 21st century. To meet modern energy codes while utilizing historic building techniques, we employed structural insulated panels (SIPS) between the interior and exterior to provide proper insulation and prevent moisture intrusion. On the first floor, we created a 3/4 bathroom featuring wood-inspired tile and a kitchenette equipped with GE Cafe Series appliances, including a fridge, freezer drawer, and dishwasher. We also installed a washer and dryer in the basement, allowing our client to clean any gym or pool clothes on-site. Bringing the warmth and character of a countryside boot room into the heart of Boston’s South End. We’re back at our South End project with Interior Designer Natalie King for a progress walkthrough of the boot room, a space inspired in part by The Goring hotel in London. Newly installed dark walnut millwork gives the room a sense of warmth and permanence, paired with @armacmartin hardware, beautifully veined marble, and an unexpected, hammered sink from @nativetrails. Every detail has been considered to make this hardworking space feel just as refined as the rest of the home, from the abundance of storage to the built-in bench that creates a place to pause at the beginning or end of the day. The vision for the Coach House Remodel was to give our client, an avid biker, golfer, and tabletop game enthusiast, a space on his property to indulge in all his favorite activities. To make this happen, we: 🏌️‍♂️ Installed a golf simulation zone complete with a faux putting green 🍻 Built a viewing section, wrapped in reclaimed barn sheathing with a live-edge walnut bar top, and a dry bar with integrated beer taps 🪑 Created a second-floor gaming room featuring a made-to-order Wyrmwood gaming table, period-appropriate lighting, and exposed timber 🎲 Built custom white oak and walnut shelving for the expansive board game collection 🚲 Added a gym space off the game room, fitted to our client’s athletic needs Plus, with a kitchenette, 3/4 bathroom, and basement laundry room, our client now had everything he needed in one place to escape, indulge, and stay active. Introducing the Coach House Remodel! After several construction attempts by previous owners, our clients, the latest owners of the historic Greenleaf-Wood house, were ready to restore the 1799 coach house outbuilding on the property. The coach house sat unused for years and had become unsafe due to rot, insect damage, and the passage of time. While preventing the structure from collapsing was paramount, the project’s overall goal was to provide a new extracurricular space for our clients. After carefully and methodically dismantling the existing timber-framed structure and rebuilding it, using as much salvaged historical lumber as possible in the same timber frame technique, we transformed the former coach house to include a golf simulator, bar and viewing space, kitchenette, ¾ bathroom, gym, and gaming room. Introducing the Great Neck Remodel! Our clients were looking to live closer to the beach and found a home in the perfect location on Great Neck, but the house was outdated, and the flow didn’t match their vision. They wanted to create a warm, minimalist, coastal-inspired house built for entertaining and to support their busy family’s lifestyle. We completely gutted and remodeled this three-story home, finishing the basement, creating an open-concept kitchen, living room, and dining room, and revamping their top-floor primary suite to match their aesthetic. A customized primary suite 👌 To ensure a minimalist, sleek aesthetic throughout the Plum Primary Remodel, we opted for custom millwork. In the living area, we installed built-in storage along the entire interior wall, ending in a custom desk. To avoid overly cluttering the bedroom and to create a seamless design, it was important for us to build a bed surround. This way, we didn't have another piece of furniture floating in the space. We built a full surround and floating nightstands, and integrated them into the slat-wood feature wall. The bathroom vanity was milled from our clients' own walnut slab, making it extra special. We designed this with recessed pulls to further enhance the desired minimalist aesthetic. All these custom pieces came together to create a beautiful second-story retreat that feels like a luxurious hotel. Are you looking to customize your home? A nature-immersed second-story retreat 🌱 One of the highlights of the original second floor at the Plum Primary Remodel was the abundance of windows. Located on a peaceful island, our clients wanted to enhance their existing views and natural light wherever possible. To bring out the treehouse aspect of the space while still maximizing the limited square footage, we designed the layout around a central column, packing in everything we could, such as the TV, desk, and closet, to leave the perimeter walls free. A challenge of having all windows on the exterior walls, though, was where to place the bathroom vanity mirrors. To accommodate this, we installed hanging mirrors in front of the windows, which still allow natural light to trickle through. Other design touches, such as the green textured wallpaper in the water closet, the birch-inspired wallpaper in the living room, and open glass shower, further brought the treehouse feeling to life in the space.
