Tuff — a volcanic stone found across Armenia — has been used for centuries because it is local, comes in many beautiful colors, and is easy for builders to shape.

It has become one of the defining elements of Yerevan’s architecture, and the famous pink tuff is exactly why the capital is often called the Pink City.
