Last night was a big night for all students at Capilano University MOPA, celebrating their 3rd year and watching all their hard work come to life. I had so many feelings going into this film. First off, stepping foot back at Capilano — where I spent so much of my early adulthood figuring out my life and what career path I wanted — although film and TV wasn’t my choice at the time, it’s never too late to start. @thegodgrandpafilm is inspired by a real story about a man — a husband and father providing for his family in the only way he can. It’s not always the right decision, but his wife stands by his side. This film hits home in so many ways, and to be able to do this in Cantonese is a dream. Growing up in Canada meant watching a mix of American shows and Hong Kong TV dramas and movies, and to have the opportunity to do a HK-style film in Canada does not happen everyday. Congratulations to @ingparanut and @nateee__ for bringing this story to life — I’m so honoured to be working with @allen_isaac_leung again and meeting new talents like @denisngtung To the rest of the crew @thegodgrandpafilm — you truly are the glue that holds our whole film together. The level of support and professionalism made it so comfortable being on set. Thank you! 🙏 🫶🏻🎉 Special shout-out to @dusdub, thanks for watching the kids honey! 😘🫶🏻 #capu #mopa #thegodgrandpa #cantonesefilm #shortfilm

(Recap of My Moviemaking March - 1/2) Who would have thought? A year ago when I first met @ingparanut , he told me about this story of his grandparents on our bus ride while we were leaving set. I was honored that he would like to include me in his project, but I also wondered how he would have considered me even before the script was out. Who would have thought? A year after when @ingparanut sent the script to me, I was crying while reading it - it was as if he heard what I have been struggling to say out loud and wrote them down on paper. Who would have thought? Just as I was feeling that "Cantonese Actors" is an endangered species in Vancouver, I got to meet so many Cantonese-speaking and Asian talents on @thegodgrandpafilm set: @denisngtung & @janice.cheer , to name a few. Not to mention the talented crew of passionate moviemakers-to-be from #CapilanoUniversity . All the passion and talent that got converged on set still amaze me in hindsight. Who would have thought? Three weeks since we wrapped and I'm still amazed by the wonderful experience I had with this production. I can only be #grateful to everyone and everything for bringing this film into a reality. @thegodgrandpafilm is currently in post production! Can't wait for everyone to see it! Photo Credit: @storybysyd @joss_mayaudon @katrinadymphna

“I need to escape this reality,” is what I said to myself every day for the past 3 months. Trying to escape the reality of people doubting, daily problems, rejection, and more to list. Some people don’t believe in us and think this film might be impossible to make. Some think this film is just a “3rd year exercise” which is fair. This film has three locations, is a Chinese cultural film, and all speak in Cantonese. With all of these circumstances, the film was really close to not happening. But… I do trust my team. More than that, I do have a great team who always have my back. What matters the most is, in the end, we did pull it off together. Everyone should be proud of themself. Thank you, everyone, for joining my very personal film. It means so much to me. Thank you all who joined this film; you guys are the heart of this film, and you guys made this story alive again. Without everyone here, this film will be just a dream. I couldn’t thank you guys enough. My grandpa and grandma passed away a while ago already, but I’m sure that they are proud of us and happy that their story will never be forgotten. Lastly, just a reminder… nothing is impossible when you put 100% into it… We fucking did it. We did escape reality and make our own one. That’s a wrap on production for ‘Believers’! The amount of hard work and passion that was put into this film from the team is beyond words. These last 4 months have been nothing but sheer focus and commitment. From finishing the first draft on a late winter evening back in December, having no idea if I would ever make this film, to now seeing every scene from it being filmed is an incredible feeling. So proud of this team, and the hard work we all poured in, aswell as the talented cast who joined us in bringing these characters and chaotic world to life. I am so excited to share this film in all its glory next year. Stay focused, stay committed, and believe. Believe that you can do whatever you set your mind to. That’s all it takes. 64 days of preproduction for a 72-hour shoot. Went through rain and sand to just get the shot. Countless days of barely sleeping to get all the plans right. Even though we are all students and it is just a student film, I would say that we absolutely fucking nailed it. It might not be perfect, or even the best film of the year, but seeing people have fun and enjoy their time on set would be the best thing I could wish for. From all the obstacles we faced over all 3 days and 6 locations, you guys absolutely made a miracle. Thank you, everyone, for believing in me and this team to be able to pull this off. Thank you everyone for all the hard work. I am not very good with words, but I want you to know how grateful I am to everyone involved in this project. You guys are amazing. I hope to see you on the next project!
