🌟 Modern Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant featuring creative pasta dishes and signature truffle cheese bread. To get a table without waiting forever, you should make a reservation; it does get quite busy.

WHAT WE GOT:

🥖 Truffle Cheese Bread- Truffle Honey Ricotta, Mozzarella, French Loaf- 8/10

🍝 Spicy Miso Carbonara- Udon, Bacon, Shiitake, Spicy Miso Cream, Parmesan, Egg Yolk- 8.5/10

🦀Crab Roe Spaghetti- Crab Roe Emulsion, Brown Butter Crab, Dehydrated Tomato, Stracciatella- 8/10

🍕Truffle Funghi- (Pizza)- Mixed Mushrooms, Arugula, Truffle Oil and we added pepperoni- 8/10

😋 I love the vibe of this place! The food was good, and the service was great! And I love how they give you free soda refills! Because we all know after eating a heavy pasta meal, having something carbonated is always the best! All the dishes are shareable, esp. the pizza! There was so much to choose from at this place. Definitely will have to return to try the other dishes. @iniristorante

🍕 Japanese Italian fusion sounds like a winning combination, but does it really work?

We visited @iniristorante in Fountain Valley for a family dinner. Part of Kei Concepts, INI puts a Japanese spin on Italian comfort food with ingredients like mentaiko, miso, and uni.

I know INI has plenty of fans, and I can understand the appeal. Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t leave much of a lasting impression on me.

🍕 Mentaiko Pizza: An interesting combination, but the octopus brought a fishiness that was a bit too pronounced for my taste. The pizza also cooled down rather quickly, making that fishy flavor even more pronounced.

🍝 Squid Ink Uni Pasta: Decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Given my love for uni, I was hoping this would be a standout.

🍗 Chicken Parmesan: Perfectly okay, but nothing that distinguished it from other versions I’ve tried. A tad too much veggies on top that detracts from the star.

Overall, nothing was particularly bad, but nothing really wowed either. Sometimes fusion concepts sound more exciting on paper than they end up tasting.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Where I think INI shines is as a gathering spot for families or larger groups. There’s a good variety of pizzas, pastas, and entrées to share, making it easy to accommodate different preferences. The atmosphere also makes it a nice setting to catch up over a meal.

Would I return? Probably not on my own, but I wouldn’t object if family or friends wanted to gather here again.

🍽️ Taste is personal, and this is just my experience and preference. I always encourage you to try it for yourself and see where your taste buds take you!

I recently revisited Ini Restaurante, part of Kei Concepts in Fountain Valley, and it’s been YEARS since my last visit! This time, we tried some of their pastas, along with their popular truffle honey bread 🍯🍞

🍕Prosciutto Burrata Pizza 8.5/10
Pizza was cooked to perfection, it had a great crunch with each bite! The flavors were delicious, I just wish there was more prosciutto compared to the arugula.

🦑Calamari 7/10
The calamari was very fresh and it was fried well! Also, it had a good amount of squid in each piece! Only wish it had another sauce, and that the whole plate was filled with calamari instead of arugula.

🥚Spicy Miso Carbonara 6.5/10
The udon and bacon was cooked perfectly. All the flavors mixed really well, including the mushrooms! However, after eating it more and more the sauce tasted a little bit like buffalo hot sauce :,)

🍝Chicken Alfredo 9.5/10
I honestly had no notes. Each noodle had a generous coating of the alfredo sauce and it was extremely delicious. In addition, the chicken had a nice crust and it was juicy! I couldn’t stop eating it and I would’ve gotten another one!
