No money? Go see art in Kigali! 🎨🇷🇼 Just walk in really! Most art centres are happy to welcome you and share their work.

Bring the kids, a notebook & pencil. Art here surprises me even more than in Senegal. Yes, there’s quite a bit of copying and animals are not my favorites… but there is SO much to discover.

Kacyiru is especially easy for an art walk, and don’t miss Kimironko.

And “free” doesn’t mean you can’t support: buy something or donate if you can. Or simply take photos, share & tag the artists and galleries. Helping Rwanda’s art become better known internationally costs nothing! 🌍❤️

Teachers, parents, families: GO IN. Art is for everyone and can be healing too.

Elle porte en elle la beauté d’un héritage qui ne s’efface jamais.
Chaque détail raconte une histoire, chaque regard porte une mémoire.
Elle n’est pas seulement une femme, elle est une œuvre vivante de l’Afrique.

A little art walk through Kigali 🎨

We spent a morning exploring some of the city’s art spaces, wandering between galleries and studios and seeing work from local Rwandan artists.

Such a fun way to see another side of Kigali and spend a slow morning exploring the city.

Today I became an art critic. 🎨🐻
🐾
Kigali has a brilliant contemporary art scene, so I swapped coffee shops for galleries and set off on my very own art walk around Kacyiru.
🐾
I visited @niyoartscenter, @inkingiarts_space, @mads_kigali, @np_arts_kigali and @ishyuka_arts, wandering from one creative space to the next and discovering everything from colourful paintings and street art to some wonderfully unusual pieces
🐾
The best part was meeting some of the artists along the way. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, and I spent a very cultural morning chatting, looking at art and occasionally standing thoughtfully in front of a painting so everyone knew I was taking my new role as art critic seriously
🐾
Several galleries and quite a few kilometres later, this little critic was hot, tired and ready to retire for lunch. Culture is exhausting work, you know
