cause you know im always gonna take a grounding breath 🫂

thank you @thisyna for such a wonderful and healing class. you told us we weren’t there to learn choreo but to share our stories. for me, that’s how I first learned to access the healing rituals of movement, so this resonated deeply with me.

I took this class on a risky whim and i’m feeling so so grateful that I did. I dedicated this string of movement to my younger self — it had been so long since I checked in on her and asked if everything was okay. After moving around in the studio a bit, I started to feel her lonliness, her fullness having nowhere to manifest. She desired connection and she dreamed of a corporeal reality. I felt guilty and ashamed that I had forgotten her, and maybe slightly intentionally so.

This string of movement felt like an apology and permission for her to guide me in her light exploration.

I know it to be true that we work in circles. So, as I get older (and start my last year of undergrad) it feels natural to reflect on what I was growing older for to begin with. And it’s this. It’s so the world could listen to more stories and move a little longer so as to finally reach release and connection.

My younger self is just una bolita de goof, always laughing and always looking for the light, my light. I am reminded of the times at my old dance studio when my friends and I would settle into the other side of a studio’s window to watch the older kids dance — we wanted to be like them one day. I remember the day the roles flipped. It felt like such a big responsibility for them to be watching us. And it is.

So, as the fall begins to trickle in, remember that your younger self is always watching, they’re proud of you, and they want to see you succeed (whatever that means to you). Don’t close the curtain on them because of your expectations to be great — they deserve to see the process of your becoming too.

Thank you @inlight.social and @rayjmon for capturing beautiful moments with such beautiful people. I am endlessly grateful 💗

Seguimos con todo,
