POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Final weekend. 🗞️✨

“The Last American Newspaper” closes Sunday at Capital Rep, and my heart is full.

Getting to choreograph this world (a newsroom racing deadlines, desks rolling, a paper shrinking around the people who loved it) was pure magic. Director Marcus Kyd had a name for it: chair ballet. 🪑💃

My favorite note from the run? Critic Bob Goepfert of The Saratogian wrote that the first act moves at “a furious pace in order to show the amazing miracle of publishing a paper.”

That miracle was the whole point. Movement as storytelling. 🙌

Deep gratitude to:
🗞️ Marcus Kyd, for the vision and the trust
🗞️ Ken Tingley, for sharing your newsroom and your people
🗞️ Miriam Weisfeld, for championing this story from the very first reading
🗞️ The crew, who made everything sing

And to our extraordinary cast, who ran, rolled, and gave everything every night:
Christopher Innvar
William Oliver Watkins
Lise Bruneau
Nicholas Baroudi
Elizabeth Pietrangelo
David Girard
Rin Allen

And the biggest thank you goes home. 🏡 Choreographing this show meant I was in Albany for most of September, and my husband held down the homefront and kept our household thriving the whole time. Every artist needs a partner who says yes even when it makes his life harder, not easier. I’ve got the best one. ❤️

If you can, catch it before Sunday. Local news matters. So does the joy of making something together. 💛

I’ve been a bit quieter on the social media streets this month. Why? I’ve been “in the make” at Capital Rep Theatre in Albany, NY. Director Marcus Kyd tapped me to choreograph this wonderful play, “The Last American Newspaper” by Ken Tingley. Working with the production team, cast, and crew has been nothing but joy. Every person working this show is committed to their craft, artistry, and the pursuit of excellence. It is a pleasure and an honor to be a part of the world-building here. We open tonight - The show runs for three more weeks; if you’re in the Albany region, get your tickets. You don’t want to miss this stellar production! Thanks to Marcus for trusting me with your vision and to Miriam for the opportunity. #walkwithjoy #whatmovesyou #choreography #theatre

30 years ago, Don Scardino and Dana Williams at @playwrightshorizons rolled the dice on FLOYD COLLINS, giving me a chance to work in the musical theatre in New York. @nonesuchrecords probably took out an ill-advised loan to record the score. But, it was the people who originated these roles who put the show on the map. Every day I thank them, and share this because they are so exquisite.
