Your strategy is only as good as your recovery. ❄️

Most of us were taught that performance comes from pushing harder; longer days, more output, recover when things slow down... But things rarely slow down. So the recovery never comes, and the decisions start to wane before we notice.

Here's what's actually happening >> Your nervous system is built to move between states... alert when it needs to act, settled when it needs to repair. When you stay in the alert state for months, your thinking narrows. You react faster and see less. 🧠

Cold water, sleep, and breath-work are simple ways to practice that shift on purpose. In cold water, the body's first instinct is to get out; staying in means slowing your breath until you settle.

It's not about forcing yourself to do more than your system is ready for , it's about doing just enough to encourage growth + still be able to recover. (notice how fast I skip out of that water 😅)

That same skill shows up in busines, on a hard call, during a launch or in stressful moments... The ability to come back to calm under stress is a business skill, not just a wellness habit.

We spend years optimizing the business. The bigger return usually comes from optimizing the operator running it.

👉 If you want to build the operator behind the business, DM me LEVEL UP and I'll send you the details.

This was not the polar plunge photo I wanted. This is the polar plunge photo that the universe wanted me to have.

And it was the most unexpected but undeniable proof that sometimes, no matter how much you want something, how ready you think you are, how much you picture how something will look before it happens, sometimes, someone more athletic than you will decide to do a backflip next to you, and the ground you thought would be sturdy is just a wet, slippery piece of rubber, and when you try to confidently jump, your feet will slip out from under you and plunge you face first into icy water that will smack you in the chest, tangle you in your harness, and leave you breathless and feeling utterly defeated.

But that somehow, it ends up so much better than you could have ever imagined.

I did eventually go again and get a “better”
photo, but the first one is so much more dynamic, includes the people who are an indelible part of the story, and came with an unexpected lesson that I didn’t know how badly I needed. 🌟 And I love it so much more

So much love to @alex7summits for capturing this moment, not listening to me when I asked her to delete the evidence of my “failure” before I saw the end result, and for offering incredible support and commiseration while I processed how this was about more than just a picture.

And huge shoutout to @into_your_sacred_pause who backflips without fear through life while still being the biggest cheerleader for everyone around her.

TL;DR: I wanted one thing, the universe was like ‘nah’, it was right.

Also if you’ve read this far, check out the 5:15 slot on the last slide for a “cheeky” peek at some photos that didn’t make the cut…. 😉

WONDER SUMMIT 2026 — November 2–9, aboard a private expedition ship into the Brazilian Amazon.

We’re celebrating 40 years of MAPS — four decades bringing psychedelics into medicine and healing. Seven nights aboard a ship on the sacred waters of the Brazilian rainforest, where Indigenous wisdom keepers, ancient medicines, and cutting-edge psychedelic science converge. The Amazon is the largest living network on the planet — a vast, breathing web of fungal and ecological intelligence. A teaspoon of Amazonian soil can hold some 400 species of fungi, and barely 1–2% have ever been identified. Every step here is uncharted territory.

DR. RICK DOBLIN — founder of MAPS
DR. PAMELA KRYSKOW — psychedelic therapy researcher
DR. MARK PLOTKIN — ethnobotanist, Amazon Conservation Team
THE YAWANAWA NATION — Peû Yawanawa with singers Nawashahu, Ykashahu, and Xinãyura
CHIEF NINAWA HUNI KUIN — hereditary chief and physician
NORMAN OHLER — author of Blitzed and Tripped
LUCY WALKER — filmmaker, How to Change Your Mind
FRANKKO VIVO — artist and musician
ADRIAN JUSDANIS of NEW THOUSAND — live-looping violin

Expect the unexpected: hidden waterways and forest trails, pink dolphins at golden hour, piranha in their natural habitat, and time with the people who have guarded this rainforest for generations.
100 guests.

All private balcony suites. Two pools, daily wellness, spa, all meals and drinks.

Cabins from $10,999 pp
USE CODE PAUL2K FOR $2,000 OFF YOUR CABIN

This is not a cruise. This is an epic journey into the indigenous wisdom of the rainforest.

How cold does the water have to be to get the benefits?? ❄️

That's the question I always get asked after posting about cold plunge.

Most of the research on cold water sits somewhere between 10-15°C and below 15 is generally where the cold shock response reliably kicks in. That's the temperature where you will gasp and get that noradrenaline surge that lifts mood and alertness for a while afterwards.

Colder water does not reliably mean better benefits - it just gets harder to tolerate and shortens how long you can safely stay in. 0.5°C is not better than 15°C - it's just far more unpleasant (I can confirm this 😅).

For most people a cold shower is well inside the useful range. A couple of minutes is plenty and doing it regularly matters far more than how cold you can get it.

One genuine word of caution - very cold water puts real strain on the heart and the shock can be dangerous. That's why I was attached to a safety rope!!

But would you do it if you had the opportunity!? 🥶
