According to Ayurveda, fall is the most “Vata” time of year- connected to the Air & Ether elements 🌀🌬️

When in balance, this is a time for creativity, expression & release. Out of balance, it can be a time of chaos, instability, and anxiety 🌀🌀

For access to a free webinar & fall guide, comment ELEMENTS✨

So these are the top 5 things I do every fall to stay sane!🍁🍂

1. Eat a grounding breakfast every day- at least 20-30 grams of protein within an hour of waking up 🌞This helps to calm cortisol & anxiety during the fall 🍂

2. Make a big stew! 🍲🥘 Make a big pot of beef, lamb or chicken stew and freeze batches ❤️Have it on hand to warm your digestive system and ground your body

3. Up your warming carminative spices ✨ I always have ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, and nutmeg on hand to add to lattes, soups and baked goods 🫚

4. Consider what you’re ready to let go 🌀🌀 Fall is a time for follow through and letting go🍁 Follow through on those projects you’ve been meaning to finish and let go of something that’s been holding you back

5. Make a fire cider! This is a great digestive and immune remedy to keep you well in the fall 🫚🍂 all you need is ACV, fiber, garlic, onions, horseradish and whatever else you want to throw in! Comment ELEMENTS and I’ll send you our fall recipes!

BONUS: practice abhyanga- massage your body head to toe in oil before you shower to detox your lymph and nourish your body 💞

Remember to stay hydrated and take extra time to nourish your body this season ❤️❤️

Abbey Joy

I hear from so many people that they don’t know where to start when it comes to herbalism.

That they’re overwhelmed, or afraid of doing it “wrong.”

What if herbalism wasn’t something you got right… but a relational practice?

Over the past few years, herbs and medicine making have become a steady part of my life, something I squeeze in the moments in between.

Overnight infusions prepped to take to my fluorescent-lit office. Decanting a tincture I forgot I made 5 months later when I find it in the back of a shelf. Watering my plants only once I can no longer ignore their pathetic wilting.

Herbalism is messy, raw, and rewarding. You learn as you go and build a web of more-than-human relationships along the way.

I feel passionate about sharing this life-giving practice with others, which is why herbalism is a central part of every @integracollective offering - stay tuned for more opportunities to learn together 😇

🌿 Achiote shampoo 🌿

This recipe is something carried by women for generations—
to the river, into their hair, into their lives.

It was shared with me by my mother-in-law.

The recipe:

🌟 Fresh achiote leaves
🌟 Wild fruit vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

Crush the leaves.
Cover with vinegar.
Let sit overnight.

Strain.

Pour slowly over your hair and scalp.
Comb through with your fingers.
Let it sit.
Rinse.

Simple. Alive. Effective.

⸻

No achiote where you live?
These plants carry a similar silky, hair-loving magic:

🌿 Marshmallow root → deep moisture + slip
🌿 Slippery elm → rich, gel-like nourishment
🌿 Plantain leaf → gentle + soothing
🌿 Nettle → strengthens + adds shine

⸻

This deep connection to nature and our bodies?

🌟This is how we heal.🌟

Plants.
Water.
Body.
Connection.

We are so excited to announce that in August, we will bring
this recipe,
this ritual,
to the river—
together.

If your body feels the water calling you…
come meet us there. 💧

Living in the rainforest, we are surrounded by lush greenery…
rivers weaving through the land, holding waterfalls, pools, and quiet places to listen.

We go to the river often.
For play.
For ceremony.
For healing.

I’ve heard my mother-in-law speak about the river in her younger years…
how it was a place women returned to, again and again.

💦 Women are meant to gather at the water…
and we have forgotten. 💦

Not everything is meant to be rushed.

There is a way of being…
where washing your hair is ceremony,
where water invites your emotions to flow,
where connection is deep and meaningful,
where your body softens.

And even if your mind doesn’t remember…
your body does.
Your DNA does.
Your soul does.

🌀This August, we return to the water.🌀

🌟Just like the women before us…
we will gather, cleanse, soften, heal, learn,
and be held by the water.🌟

If something in you feels this…
a quiet longing for the water…
you’re invited.

juicy, slow + wild love 💕

we transformed the liquor bar into an apothecary, smeared honey and hibiscus on our faces

swam and splashed in aquamarine waters to balance our fire element after grounding into the earth with herbal tea

meditated on our grandmothers in the morning and danced our asses off at night

I’m in awe of the power of intergenerational women gathering,

mothers and daughters seeing ancestral patterns shift in real time.

the elements our guide, the earth our playground

earth, air, water, fire — and ether to tie us all together.

Our 5 day Elemental retreat this September blew all my expectations out of the water, these incredible women showing up to the altar of Earth, Body, and Spirit.

We facilitated the space and schedule, but it was only because of the open heartedness, courage, and vulnerability of each participant that we were able to go so deep.

I’m forever grateful to my teacher (and now, incredibly, my co-collaborator) @kealy.wild.harmony for mentoring me on this path of the Elements as a framework for self discovery, truly holistic healing, and relational interdependence. And I’m so damn lucky to learn, teach, and play alongside my best friend and partner in crime @abbeyjoyhealing 🥹

It’s so easy to come unmoored in a world full of so much noise, violence, and disconnection.

Tapping into the elements brings us home. And when women gather, we heal 🫶

Until next year, elemental baddies @integracollective 🚀
