It’s Week 69 of the Buy a Game a Week Challenge — strategy under pressure and nightmares after dark! 🚀

This week’s additions blend post-apocalyptic tactics with psychological puzzle drama:

🪖 Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (Nintendo DSi) — developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. A darker, grittier take on the beloved strategy series, featuring new characters, a bleak world, and refined tactical gameplay that rewards careful planning and adaptability.

😈 Catherine: Full Body (Nintendo Switch) — developed and published by Atlus. A unique mix of relationship drama and puzzle-platforming, where every night brings deadly climbing challenges and every choice shapes Vincent’s fate. Stylish, strange, and unforgettable.

This week’s crossover? Commanding troops in Days of Ruin all day, then climbing nightmare towers in Catherine at night — turns out the real strategy game is figuring out your love life without triggering a bad ending. Even the COs couldn’t plan for that. 😅🪖💔

“You deserve better from me than one sword and a world of troubles. I’m sorry.”

Fire Emblem Awakening on the Nintendo 3DS is not only one of the best games on the 3DS and in the Fire Emblem franchise but it is also the most important as well.

After Fire Emblem came to the west, there was interest as Marth and Roy were brought into Super Smash Bros Melee on the GameCube prior, however, the Tellius duology on GC and Wii and the entries on the GBA and Shadow Dragon’s remake on the DS were not selling well.

Awakening was a last ditch effort from Nintendo to bring the franchise to the West and if it didn’t do well, that was going to be the end of the franchise in the west…. And it ended up doing gangbusters worldwide!

As a celebration of Awakening and how much it is THE staple in the franchise (next to Three Houses), I have gone back and recreated the original Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon box art for the Famicom using key elements from Awakening to create this tribute piece!

I will have this available as a print at @thegameexpo and @supanovaexpo ! Come by and say hi!

Did you play Fire Emblem Awakening? What are your thoughts on it?

@val.aura as Dagr from Fire Emblem

"Dagr is a character who's near and dear to my heart, I relate a lot to her character, and I love her design. I made her cosplay myself, patterning everything from scratch. It was a long process that involved many broken needles 😅.
Dagr also gave me my first ever contest win, at Rapture Gaming Festival in 2023, and I'm very proud of what I managed to achieve with her cosplay!"

I've had the lucky opportunity to meet and shoot with @val.aura a few times now, but I'm shocked this was in May last year already. This is such a powerful cosplay and worn with real pride and confidence too.
