Lush Life by Billy Strayhorn. One of the most beautiful songs written in the 20th Century. @joshuabanbury and I discussed the importance of this song for him and me when we sat down for his interview At the Podium, Episode 18. Toby Poser and her family drove across the country in a RV making critically acclaimed movies for almost a decade. Her words of what she experienced driving through America are a prayer for what we can hopefully be. United in our humanity. #atthepodiumwithpatrickhuey #america #unite #humanity #unitedstates

Ryland Engelhart is a man of passion and big ideas and fearlessness. We go deep into his work in combating climate change, teaching people to eat healthier and how being a father opened his heart to a love he didn’t anticipate. In a month where we celebrate Earth Day, he is a man who matches the moment. #atthepodiumwithpatrickhuey #planetearth #sustainability #deepakchopra #fatherhood

The Yale School of Drama comes up often in the podcast. It was such a singular and defining experience for many of us who attended the school. I’m grateful to have had the privilege to be in the program (mainly because of the phenomenons people I encountered) and at times quite conflicted about the school because as with any institution there were challenges. It was good to be able to touch on the good with @czelevansky whom I have such respect for as an artist and as a human being. She was a huge part of many of those good moments. She joins us ‘At the Podium,’ with a clarifying voice on her artistic and life journeys. Today she is the Executive Director of the Mercury Store - a theater collective in Brooklyn shaking up why and how theater gets made. Big take away for me? You have to step out onto the path even if you don’t always know the destination. #atthepodiumwithpatrickhuey #theater #dramaschool #education @careerslifeyale #director

I’ve been thinking a lot about the meaning of work because we spend so much of our awake time ‘working.’ I’m just beginning to truly grasp this concept that more than working for a person or a company, you have to get connected to the mission of what you are working for. ‘At the Podium’ is my dharma. I’m creating a space for people to share their stories freely and without judgment. If we can share and hear our stories, we can see each person’s humanity. Every time you listen to a podcast, watch a video or sign up for my weekly newsletter, you are supporting that mission. I am so honored to be featured as a guest for this event.

Last year I released a project, 28 Days of Self Love. It was a true spiritual birthing. So this is a full circle moment. To be part of this amazing production with my brother is both an honor and a privilege.

One thing about Rev. Pope’s kids is we gonna hold on to God’s vision until every part prophesied is birthed into existence.

If you’re in the Chicagoland area, pull up.

Flashing back to my conversation ‘At the Podium’ with @quentinvennie about how we as black people need to seize the day and create new narratives for ourselves. Legacies that we write and own. #atthepodiumwithpatrickhuey #fbf #blackhistorymonth #blacklivesmatter
