Joining Leonard Bernstein as one of the most influential musicians of my life's journey in music is Leonard Slatkin - here endorsing the Rhapsody Historic Initiative: “With acclaimed pianist, Jeffrey Biegel, the 'Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue' written by composer Peter Boyer promises to be one of the most exciting events with plans to perform the work in all 50 states. I look forward to the result and encourage everyone to participate, if possible.” — LEONARD SLATKIN, conductor; Music Director , Nashville Symphony; former Music Director, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra Thank you, Leonard. Your endorsement during the building of the largest consortium of orchestras in the history of music helped support the mission uniting orchestras throughout the country. There are currently 73 orchestras in all 50 states and a London Symphony Orchestra recording. Thank you for championing living composers and humbly inspiring me to be part of the great American 'yellow brick road'. @leonardslatkin @peterboyermusic @orchleague @internationalconductorsguild @apnews

I had the honor of working with the absolutely incredible Arthur Fagen at the UCLA x @internationalconductorsguild workshop. I tried something new things, really went for it, and had an incredible 5 days of personal musical growth. I'm still thinking about this baton grip, though. It seems to be working for me okay, but it feels really weird. Typically I hold the baton like a toothbrush or hairbrush... it's more in my fingers. However, they asked me to put the handle against the center of my palm and let my fingers rest further up on the shaft. I can't feel the balance point as much, but it does feel a little more secure. I'm definitely adding it to my "toolbox" of conducting technique & gestures, and we'll see in a few months if I gravitate towards it more! #conductor #orchestra #femaleconductor #directora #orquesta

When you hear the name Larry Eckerling, the words come to mind: brilliant, respected, humble, caring. And, he's a superlative musician and conductor. Because of his incomparable experience playing in wedding bands in addition to performing as a pianist and conductor, when he conducts George Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue', I don't have to talk about tempos, style, balancing sound, because he just 'gets it. He treated the piece exactly for what it is - a lighter jazz infused kaleidoscope of Americana fused with his Eastern European ancestry dances, the 1920s Charleston, Ragtime, tipping the hat to Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto. A totally delightful experience. He equally respects Peter Boyer's 'Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue' in its American landscape spanning 1920s-2020s. This was the Illinois State Premiere - and 40th state to enjoy the new Rhapsody as part of the 50 states Rhapsody National Initiative. Thank you to Larry, the Evanston Symphony Orchestra, the board, staff, donors, and the community that keeps the orchestra alive. Special thanks to Todd Wiener and Paula Jacobi-Wiener for sponsoring my visit. @evanstonsymphonyorchestra @lawrenceeckerling @wienertodd @peterboyermusic @orchleague @internationalconductorsguild @usatoday @apnews @musicalamerica @america250

Thank you to Daniel Carl Hege and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra for representing Kansas in the Rhapsody National Initiative "Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue" by Peter Boyer. The staff of the orchestra and musicians reminded me how magic can happen when we share the time and space to make magic happen. I look forward to our next collaboration very soon. Thanks Tim Storhoff and the indefatigable Joe Mikelait. What I witnessed was a fascinating timepiece of music rarely heard. The photos below include the grandfather of Daniel. Every orchestra and Music Director should reach out to Daniel about his grandfather's music. "Caprice" is a unique, brief montage of Native American sounds that would be a special addition to programming. "Boyd Eagle (1902-1989) was a citizen of the wal-lam-wat-kain band of Nimi:pu: (Nez Perce), led in the early twentieth century by legendary Chief Joseph. Eagle was a jazz musician, conductor and composer. Eagle’s legacy lives on through his grandson, Maestro Daniel Hege, a member of the Chief Joseph Band of New Perce of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Hege follows a similar path as Music Director and Conductor of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra." @wichitasymphony @dan_hege99 @peterboyermusic @tstorhoff @orchleague @internationalconductorsguild

These past few weeks have been such a wonderful experience for me, traveling to Towson to work with the excellent Markand Thakar, and an equally excellent group of conductors. This took me to @magfest, where I met so many incredible people, of which I will consider as brand new and ideally lifelong friends, and so many many many more people that I’ve looked up to and respected for years. I also had the privilege of guest conducting a 391(?) piece orchestra in the massive Gaylord Hotel, and, finishing off the beginning of this journey with the closing of the @internationalconductorsguild Conference here in Dallas. I’ve been granted such a lovely group here, and I am so glad to have met all of you and had the pleasure of interacting with you all! Although I’m not finished with adventures yet, I’m so happy to start 21 years with such a bang! Thank you everyone!!
