In These Hands: The Black Birthworkers documentary is a film that follows three queer black women traveling 8,000 miles across country to interview black midwives, doulas, historians and mothers on their history significance and influence of reproductive health and justice advocacy.

We’re fundraising to help them complete post-production and share this film with all of us. There will be suggested donations at the door and raffle tickets to purchase. Let’s make a difference!

A decade ago my life changed watching my sister lose hers.

And a decade later, I’ve answered a calling to get into birth working to transmute this grief, show up for a community that needs it, and to join thousands of other Black birth workers to reclaim our ancestry & power IN birth working.
•
@inthesehandsdoc also is reclaiming our ancestry and power. Reclaiming our stories. Years of footage that needs to see the light of day. This film seeing the light of day would be a beautiful honor to my sister and thousands others who’ve been affected my Black maternal grief. THIS is how we transmute the pain, by amplifying our power and stories. 💜

Excited to announce that Patient Caregiver Artist Coalition has just contributed $2,500 to In These Hands: The Black Birthworkers Documentary.

This film follows three Queer Black filmmakers across 8,000 miles documenting a crisis told by the people inside it.

Black women in the U.S. are three times more likely to die from childbirth or pregnancy-related complications.

That’s a shocking statistic and one that is completely unacceptable. The power of culture and storytelling is how change gets made — and it’s why this project matters. Storytelling from the community, by the community and for the community. PCAC exists to support work like this.

They launched May 1st and raised over $20k in under three weeks.
