POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There is still time to catch my ICA show!! @icasandiego 🐉❤️‍🔥 I am around and have really loved the way this exhibition has become a space to connect with friends, family, neighbors, community members, fellow artists, and strangers. This work is simultaneously incredibly personal and a way to examine a larger collective history; it truly means so much when folks see the show and spend time with it. 🙇🏻‍♂️ This show has been shaped by so many folks at so many stages, so this post is actually one of gratitude rather than sharing the work itself:

Thank you to Jordan Karney Chaim, the curator I got to work so closely with throughout my residency. My practice and research became so rich and deep during this time through your mentorship, and the confidence I have moving forward was not something I expected! The chance to work with you was one of the reasons I applied. I’m glad we were able to pivot through every change to create an exhibition we both felt proud of. Thank you for the ways you champion artists and don’t waver on your ethos. @jordan_karney_chaim

Thank you to Roxana Lopez, the exhibitions manager who stuck around long enough to let my install be the last one you worked on with ICA. Your compassion and reliability was a grounding force throughout the residency, and I’m so grateful you let me dream big and helped me find a way to make every experimental installation idea sound and steady. @roxanalopez

We’re just 1 week away from welcoming everyone back to our space at 3500 Parkdale Ave for our first ever Open Critique.
.
Specially scheduled to coincide with Artscape weekend, we’re excited to add to the long list of art-related programming happening across Baltimore on Saturday, May 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
.
If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to become part of our conversations, this is the perfect time to jump in. These Open Critiques are designed to be more casual and less presentation-focused than our regular monthly critiques, creating an accessible environment for new participants to get their sea legs underneath them and engage with the group.
.
We’re looking forward to discussing these exciting new works, welcoming new faces into the program, and spending another great afternoon together in our space.
.
See you next weekend!

V. Jo Hsu describes the idea of “homing” as a critical approach to storytelling that (re)makes family/home as an ongoing practice. Homing stories situate individual experiences in relation to relevant histories and events, (re)composing with the mutability of our growth and movements. This storytelling deliberately confronts systems of power and representation, while also taking into account the storyteller’s relationships and responsibilities in telling the story. Homing also enables diasporic subjects to deconstruct, co-construct, and maneuver around sites of (un)belonging.

Through diasporic wisdoms, homing emphasizes that belonging is not stable, guaranteed, or predictable; it approaches home in a way I think is more fluid, considering with whom, where, and how we belong. It also regards home as the difficult, collaborative, and sometimes contradictory practice of re-placement, reimagining, and relating across distance and difference.

I’ve been making a lot of work about searching and desires and longing and the impossible nostalgia for a home I’ve never know. Today, Quinn put some of our Polaroids into a touching, fragmented narrative, resonances of all the times I’ve felt at home lately. What a beautiful surprise to be reminded of. ❣️❣️❣️

In 2025, I worked on my first music video, finished filming my upcoming short film and won some awards at the @bmorehorrorfest! Here are some shots from the sets of @krimeslugs music video for "U R Already Dead" and my short film, They Lied to Us.

I recently submitted work to my first design and marketing awards show with the @thecsca and I was lucky enough to take home a few wins! I’m incredibly excited and deeply grateful—not just for the recognition, but for the people who made these projects what they are.

For the music videos, that meant access to locations, actors, and an unbelievable amount of handmade props and costumes. Really it all just came down to friendship guidance, trust, and learning from the people around me. And I feel like I picked up a lot from these projects. On the design side, it meant my fellow capstone students and mentors both in and out of the classrooms, who consistently pushed me to make stronger, more thoughtful work.

And my love—thank you for reminding me that my work was worth submitting in the first place (and for letting me write about the silly fish, who have taken over my home and changed our lives)

Heaven, USA has been an idea for about two years now. I’ve always been obsessed with the juxtaposition of things. Or as Virgil Abloh would like to explain, the context of an object/person is decided by the space that it occupies. Korean adoptees have always been dictated by the places that they reside. I became fixated on the idea of a Korean Hanbok in a corn field. Angels in the living room. Highlighting and amplifying the strangeness and anxiety of me growing up in Farmington, IL that I felt as a kid and that I feel even more acutely now every time I go “home”. This album is my story.
I’m thankful that the band trusted and allowed me to take this album in the direction we did. And I’m grateful for the daily facetime calls @dudesxrock and I had for over a year talking about what story we wanted these songs to tell.
Thank you @shaykaystone for allowing your son, Gabe, to be the focal point of an album made by strangers that @rayeatscrayons endorsed.
Thank you @burdetty and @sara.burdette for opening your home for us to use and being the perfect models.
Thank you @jaythecreativeguy and @_ayukarts for being so willing to help however we’ve needed it.
Thank you @inthestraw_art for making the Heaven, USA sign and understanding exactly what I was going for.
And thank you to my wife @hspiker for everything. There wasn’t another photographer that would have been able to convey exactly what I wanted. I think the photos speak for themselves. Thank you for keeping me sane, handmaking the angel wings, and encouraging me into believing making this album was a good thing.
Thank you @giveupthegook and @kimhwanchang. Without No Model this album wouldn’t have happened.

Heaven, USA 2025. Thank you.

PS: If you want context for the album listen to Torture Culture by No Warning.
