I find that when I listen to just respond or react, I often miss an important detail someone is describing. I have to remind myself to slow down and process it before.

Let’s make each day about giving something that’s meaningful and essential to those in need. Time, money, advice, guidance, etc….

For me it’s important that I pray each morning and give thanks. Usually right after, I think of people who have been important to my life. I try to pay homage by reaching out, or using a tip, or strategy that person taught me. In this holiday season, who and what are you thankful for? Let’s try to make thankfulness a daily practice!

So many things happen during a day we might not anticipate. Making sure we realize that everything won’t always fit right into place how we would like and being flexible enough to respond accordingly to those challenges is key. Let’s use the skills we often tell others to.

Book Review 📚
Intrinsically Motivated: Shifting the Mindset of Students
By Walter Cullin Jr.
__________
Just the book I needed to read right now. I am greatful that I came across this book. This book is different from all the other self care and self growth books I have on my bookshelf in very special ways..

•As a student, the person must always be motivated, as it can only give that power to that student to keep on learning. But unfortunately, today students don't get that type of motivation that last long, their motivation doesn't run for long and there they face the real problem regarding their growth. Let us read something that can give us insight on this one, introducing INTRINSICALLY MOTIVATED SHIFTING THE MINDSET OF STUDENTS. The cover page is very well drawn, keeping in mind the content it has inside. The genre is self-help.

•The author has written how motivation should be kept alive when a person is in the stage of learning. He starts with the thing that today's students are lacking the real motivation they should be having, as that is why their growth in the results does not change. Even though they want it badly they do not work the way they should have to change the report card status. Here the author shares the importance of being intrinsically motivated. A motivation that lasts long and that always tries to work harder than before. The more a person works hard is dependent on how well his inner being is motivated.

•Everytime I pick a nonfiction to read, I hope for it to teach me a deep sense of something, anything, I hope for it to stir something deep inside of me and make me think, I hope for it to change my perspective towards life for the better, to inspire me, to give me hope and I hope to learn from it. This book did that to me. I just hope this book reaches more people and especially those who are in need. The content is valuable and reading it may cause a bigger difference in the life.

I advocate for this book to be a recommended reading in our schools.

This was such an amazing moment. A moment of pause, reflection and realizing just how grateful we all should be for the students and children we have been given to lead. Seeing their faces beaming with pride and joy made my heart swell. @otis_dabarber Thank you bro! For being willing to jump right in. If no one has ever told you, I’m going to say it, “You made a difference!” Those boys walked out with so much pride and joy. A mystifying moment. I’m grateful!

In the words of Frederick Douglass, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

Have a wonderful Friday!🤝🏾🖤 Drop a black heart for all of our young men!🖤🖤

~ BOOK SPOTLIGHT ~
Intrinsically Motivated: Shifting the Mindset of Students
By Walter Cullin Jr.
___________
Description
Many students may find that their motivation to study hard ends in what happens after getting a good grade. They win a prize. They get a medal. They get candy, a party, free time, or a new car. This is what's called extrinsic motivation–and in the classroom, it's the opposite of passion.

It's intrinsic motivation that will prove to be sustainable for individuals who do want to learn and grow. It's driven by desire, inspiration, enjoyment, curiosity–building a skill because it's an activity you enjoy, rather than for a fleeting reward.

This insightful book is a deep dive into why drive is a challenge and what you can do to help inspire it. Giving students motivation is no easy feat, but this book will teach you how they can find it for themselves.
