The section you skip is the one that frizzes. 👀

Here's how I build a Wash & Go that holds its definition:

1️⃣ Small sections, starting at the nape. The back and underneath are the easiest to miss. Working small and from the bottom up means every curl gets the same attention, not just the ones you can see in the mirror.

2️⃣ Smoothing, not scrunching. I smooth the styler down each section to give the curls structure. Using Sea Foam Mousse and Coastal Curls together gives them the hold and shape they need to clump.

3️⃣ Let the curls do the rest. With the right technique, you'll watch the strands start to group together and separate into defined clumps on their own.

4️⃣ Set it completely. She sits under a hooded dryer to set the style, and I blow-dry the roots if needed so she leaves 100% dry. Damp roots are where definition starts to fall apart.

We start with a full rinse, then go in with a deep cleanse shampoo to remove buildup and sweat from the scalp and hair. Next, we apply Harbor Restore conditioner, adding hydration back into the locs.
Then we prep for the service — the hair is pulled up, then sectioned and parted to begin the retwist. Clean, crisp parts set up each row, and each loc is retwisted at the root using the palm roll technique, keeping the pattern even throughout.
Using a clipless method, the retwisted roots are held in place without clips until they're plait-braided down, setting the hair for the texture she'll have later. We move section by section to keep the parts neat and crispy for a solid foundation.
Along the way, we repaired a couple of locs that needed love and attention, rebuilding the base for strength. Then it's back to palm rolling and braiding down, and the pattern really starts coming together. Row after row gets the same care — every part just as clean as the last.
Once the left side is fully retwisted and plait-braided down, we move to the final row, parting and prepping it the same way. That last section gets palm rolled and braided down just like the rest.
Then she sits under the dryer to fully set the braids in place. And here's the result — a clean retwist, fully braided down, ready to be taken out for soft, wavy hair, just in time for her senior photos.
