Crocodiles at Sala Clamores, Madrid, 21.10.26. Eighteen years in and nine albums deep, Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell brought Greetings From Hell, their latest album, to an old jazz club that has been a Madrid institution since 1981. A Rickenbacker and a sunburst Telecaster pushed through enough fuzz to strip the paint off the walls. ‘Sonic Reducer’ as a requiem for Cheetah Chrome. ‘Degeneration’ with a Townshend windmill. And for the encore, a proper tribute to The Stooges with ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’, which made the fan next to me shout “me cago en Dios!!!!” in pure ecstasy. Only in Spain. That guy made my night. Sixties girl group melodies dragged through garage, punk, krautrock and noise. Sweetness underneath, violence on top. Swipe for photos and the full review → Nice one, @killcrocodiles.
