Rhythm Bath Digital Diary 3: The Dancers These artists. Wow. So talented and so generous. Their dancing was exquisite, but it’s the way they welcomed audiences that we’ll remember most. Grateful to Ching-I, Coutrney, Darrin, Eilleen, Bryn, Kristin, Nico, Paul, Rohan and Vanessa, for making Rhythm Bath audience members feel seen, affirmed and supported. Their intimate and powerful performance offered a new way of considering how dance is delivered and received. Image 1: Susan Marshall and Rhythm Bath Dancers Susan Marshall, a white, middle-aged woman with long brown hair and glasses sits on a white chair. The Rhythm Bath dancers, a diverse group of ten men and women surround her. Two dancers sit on the floor, resting against Susan’s lap; others stand behind her, arms around each other’s’ shoulders. Image 2: Rhythm Bath Rehearsal Ten diverse dancers, male and female, stand in silhouette, each with their arms raised above their heads, fingertips touching. Images 3 & 4: Human Connection Six diverse dancers, men and women, in a staggered line behind a sheer scrim. They are connected to each other through touch - arms extended, hands touching or hands placed on shoulders. Their push/pull movement evokes passage and return. Image 5: Puzzled! Three smiling women, two white and one Asian, work on a large floral puzzle. The puzzle frame is fully assembled, and the image is partially formed, revealing several large, colorful flowers. Rhythm Bath Digital Diary 2: The Access Rhythm Bath demonstrates that artmaking and access, when developed together, elevate both forms. Susan Marshall’s choreography and Mimi Lien’s set design were informed by years of conversation and workshops with neurodiverse individuals – access developed and delivered from the ‘inside out’. Our team also included generous and skilled access practitioners like ASL interpreter Hedie Kelly, audio describer Nicole Sardella, and Clovernook – access developed and delivered from the ‘outside in’. Access works best when it is designed from both the inside out AND the outside in. Our goal is to build spaces where no one is required to make a special request for services. Image 1 & 2: RB Dancers examine tactile objects from Touch Tour A white middle-aged woman demonstrates a series of tactile objects for a group of five diverse dancers. Some touch raised line drawings, others examine 3-D replicas of choreography. Disability justice takes action—and our coalition members are showing up! Sending solidarity to Disabled in Action, ADAPT, and Liberty Resources, who were in Washington, DC, this week fighting for our rights, our independence, and our future. Their advocacy carries a message that should never need repeating: Disabled people have the right to live in our communities, make our own choices, and shape the decisions that affect our lives. We’re proud to stand alongside these REV UP Philly coalition members. To everyone organizing, speaking out, and demanding accountability: we see you, we thank you, and we stand with you. Nothing about us without us. Find out more at DisabilityPridePA.org/RevUpPhilly #REVUPPhilly #DisabledInAction #ADAPT #LibertyResources #DisabilityJustice #IndependentLiving #DisabilityPride #VotingMatters #RevUp #AAPD Id... 4 coalition members from Liberty Resources are in front of oversized silver balloons (mylar so they are accessible for folks with latex allergies) that spell out VOTE and holding up smaller blue signs.
