Afterwards, I will be hosting an Event + Street Photography Workshop to the public next month 🙏🏾 the workshop goes beyond the technicalities of photography and dives into the art of connection & documenting the essence of people. I am extremely excited for it!

A few moments from our post-screening conversation at the Inglewood Photo Festival. After a presentation of the Living Harriet Tubman film, Nancy Whittle and co-director Brandon Tauszik discussed Civil War reenactments, public memory, Harriet Tubman’s legacy, and the story behind the film. Nancy has spent more than three decades portraying Harriet Tubman at reenactments across California. The film follows her as she prepares a final performance before retirement and reflects on the legacy she hopes to leave behind. Some of the top photographers, filmmakers, and visual storytellers gathered at the historic @themiracleinglewood in Inglewood for the @iphotofestival (Inglewood Photo Festival), a weekend dedicated to photography, community, and culture. I spent most of my time taking in the conversations, reconnecting with friends, and soaking up all the photography love, so I didn’t make as many images as usual. Sometimes it’s good to put the camera down and simply be present. A few highlights included legendary photographer and cinematographer John Simmons, ASC (@johnsimmonsasc) receiving the IPF Documentary Vision Award for his decades of contributions to visual storytelling and Black visual culture. Estevan Oriol (@estevanoriol) was honored with the Cultural Impact Award before delivering a keynote that reflected on his career documenting Los Angeles and its many communities. One of the most powerful conversations of the weekend featured Marcus Ubungen (@yourpalmarcus) and Sunny Mills (@sunshine_acid), moderated by Everard Williams (@everard__williams). Their discussion moved beyond photography and into memory, loss, survival, and the emotional weight photographers carry while documenting historic moments. Another standout panel featured Kwaku Alston @kwakualston , Glen Wilson (@dubarts), and Bruce Talamon (@brucewtalamon), sharing stories from behind the scenes of the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic and offering a rare glimpse into the craft of documenting one of the most iconic artists in history. The festival closed with a presentation from my homegirl @zaymonae, who spoke about her photographic practice, the evolution of her 85mm Series, and the importance of creating images rooted in community, identity, and intention. Maestro Cory Henry - One LP exhibition at Street Level Photoworks- open now - formerly with Snarky Snarky now with his own band. I was at the Inglewood Photography Festival @iphotofestival a few weeks ago and Cory was appearing at the theatre a few days later. Cory Henry: Musician Cory Henry / One LP - Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life released 1976 “I chose Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life record was one of the first vinyls I’ve ever heard in my life. And when I heard it, and actually understood what was happening. Musically, it changed my life forever. And the songs now that I listened to it - I still listen to it. And now it has a brand new meaning as a grown man than it did when I was about, you know, maybe eight years old, when I think when I first heard it and lyrically it speaks passed the time it was written - it’s so important to what’s going on in today’s society.
