EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT:

Less than five years ago we were afraid to mention our heritage out loud.

Now we're proudly bringing our Palestinian heritage to the forefront of our local community through the art of Tatreez.

Come & visit us at the Ipswich Art Gallery in the Workshop Art Space as Artists In Residence from 23 Nov - 11 Dec '26

-

Rana Cobbin (@tatreezwithrana) and Mia Slattery (@kinectedcreativesau) are multidisciplinary creatives whose collaborative practice is anchored in the rhythmic language of Tatreez—traditional Palestinian embroidery.

Rana Cobbin and Mia Slattery, are a Palestinian mother and daughter duo, who have both lived in Ipswich for over 27 years.

They are multidisciplinary creatives whose collaborative practice is anchored in the rhythmic language of Tatreez—traditional Palestinian embroidery. Together, they bridge the gap between ancestral memory and the contemporary Australian landscape, exploring themes of displacement, identity, and the quiet power of cultural reclamation.

POV

You book one 90 minute beginner friendly painting workshop to try something new and now you are a crazy bird lady.

Sorry. Not sorry.

I too am wondering where I can put all of the birds. In the pot plants seems like a good idea. They like trees right?

It has been really nice to see the gallery fill up with people over the past week. The art on display has touched so many people for lots of different reasons. All the artists have interpreted the theme in their own unique ways and hearing the comments from visitors about why they like this one or the other has been interesting.
Like all good things the show has to end and all the artwork will go home on Sunday afternoon. But it’s not too late to visit and enjoy these views - open 10-3pm each day till Sunday 27th.
Massive thanks to @amanda.waschevski for the photos!
