Things we preserve, No. 32 by florist @iris.botanical

We were initially drawn to the combination of flowers and clothing, but it was the overall feeling of the piece that kept us engaged. There’s something interesting about the contrast between the two, bringing together elements that feel so different while still working naturally alongside each other. We think it’s a good example of how the overall atmosphere of a piece can be just as important as the idea behind it.

Stockholm-based IRIS @iris.botanical led by floral artist Maria Isabella Strand, moves beyond traditional floristry into the worlds of sculpture, installation, and set design. Flowers become an artistic material rather than simply decoration, suspended from metal structures, emerging from soil, wrapped into organic forms, or arranged to interact with architecture and the surrounding environment. The result is botanical work that feels temporary yet highly constructed, allowing delicate natural materials to take on unexpected scale and presence.

Across editorial projects, installations, and fashion settings, Strand experiments with the tension between control and nature. Fresh blooms sit alongside dried foliage, exposed roots, earth, metal, and unconventional structural supports, while individual stems are often isolated to emphasize their shape and movement. Based in Stockholm and working internationally, IRIS approaches floral design as a form of visual storytelling—somewhere between floristry, sculpture, and spatial design.
