A small milestone. A rather big continent. 🤍

Sometimes work takes you to places you genuinely never imagined when you first started. And sometimes, somehow, it even ends up on a cover. 🥹

I’m very, very happy to be on the cover of the latest issue of InHouse, alongside a story about Antarctica, polar research, and our first expeditions to this absolutely incredible place.

On pages 25–29, we talk about how it all started, the journeys south, the research carried out there, and the projects that keep taking us further.

It still feels a little unreal, honestly. And I’m incredibly grateful for all the people, projects, and unexpected moments that made this journey possible.

Thank you so much, InHouse, for the invitation and for telling this story so beautifully. 🤍

It's a really hot day in Bucharest. It's over 35°C and no wind at all, nothing. It reminded me of this photo I took a few years back near a cismea in Dobrogea, on a day just like this one. It was just as hot outside I remember.

The concrete was burning, the water wasn't cold, but there was something about that moment, of how the boy and the cows seemed to share the space in complete silence. Some memories just come back on days like this.

@elliott.gallery celebrates @iris.maria.tusa Iris Maria Tușa with an Artist Tallk, Saturday 8th November (from 17.30 to 19.30) in Amsterdam.

Iris Maria Tușa is a Romanian photographer whose evocative work explores the personal histories and collective experiences that shape the way we perceive the world. Trained as a biologist and Antarctic researcher, she now focuses on photographic projects, working often in her native Dobrogea region in southeastern Romania.
Carrying a quiet nostalgia, Iris’ photographs inhabit the space between documentary and imagination. Grounded in real communities yet open to interpretation and layered meaning, her work is both deeply personal and observant.
Iris’ photographic series, Thresholds (2024) and Childhood Memories (2017–2023), draw on her childhood in rural Dobrogea. More than an ethnographic study of the region, Iris’ work reimagines familiar settings as spaces of transition, between memory and imagination, reality and fantasy.
