HATCHET
01.08.26, 5-9PM
L3 - RAILSPUR STUDIOS

This exhibition explores texture, pattern and material itself as both structure and subject. Made with fiber, metal, wood, ceramics, and paint, these works have been cut, sewn, torn, punctured, dyed, carved, sheared, scraped, fired, and forged to reveal their final form. Together, the works in ‘Hatchet’ reveal a raw softness that breaks away from the rigidity of the rectangle, building up and paring down materials through repetition of force.

Looking down the spiral. Usually we'd put the handrail on the other side of the staircase... In this case the staircase was really narrow though so we shifted it to the inside so you have more tread for your foot to land on.

Nate is contemplating how many more times he needs to go up and down this spiral staircase... It was a lot of times, usually carrying heavy items.

This rail swirled around the center post for 3 levels before flattening off and terminating into a wall. We bent the spiral pieces in our shop and then got some help from @fe.j_forge for the solid transition pieces.

Thanks again to #MOCA for letting us partake in the festivities yesterday, and to @seattleparksandrec for opening the space up to do some really awesome things for our youth and our community! Thanks to @byandby_sea for the prizes and @35thnorth for the supplies! Also, thanks for the AWESOME NEW BUMPER STICKER, Cove and Zac! ❤️ I’ve slapped a lot of things on the back of my vehicles across the years… this one is my favorite, by far! 🤘🤘🤘
