When he was one, fist bumps started as a way to help him calm down after the tournament. Meeting the knights up close helped him see that they weren't hurt, and they weren't scary.

Four years later, it's become one of our favorite Renfaire traditions. Win or lose, every tournament ends with fist bumps, horse pets, and a chance to say hello to friends.

He insists on fist bumps for every Knight, Dame, and Yeoman from every faction. If we miss someone at the morning tournament, we start the afternoon round with them, or try to find them around the Faire later on.

The Knights are part of our faire family. And in this family, nobody gets left behind or forgotten. ❤️

Serenity, Nottingham, Embar, and Acheron are all used to getting post-joust pets from O by now. But Harry might be the most patient Renfaire horse we've met so far. 🐴⚔️

For years, this Renfaire kid has given fist bumps to his favorite knights after every tournament.

This weekend, one of those knights surprised him with something completely unexpected: a miniature version of his own lance, hand made just for O.

It immediately became his most treasured possession. He carried it, twirled it, jousted with it, danced with it, used it as a sword, and pretended to spear the bullseye with it all the rest of that day and the next, until the moment we got in the car to go home.

What means the most to me isn't the gift itself. It's what it represents.

A little tradition between a toddler and a group of kind adults turned into a friendship. And somewhere along the way, they started making memories for him just as intentionally as he was with them.

That's a gift far bigger than the lance.
