My 2025 Chinese World Lion King Championship Journey 🇨🇳

I got the opportunity to participate in the 2025 World Lion King Championships in Nanjing, China. Around April time of this year, 2025, I got given the opportunity to compete again in Lion Dancing. My last international competition was MGM Macau in 2012. It has been 13 years since I activately competed and that was in the high pole category. That was a long time ago, and I thought that was me done. Since then I got married, had a couple of kids, and bought a house. I am a good bit older now in which is very much a young persons sport. But the most by chance opportunity came and i grasped it with open arms.

If you had told me at the start of this year I would go and compete internationally again I would laugh.

I don’t know how long I’ve got left in me, but I will for sure go on as long as my body allows. Hopefully won’t get ridiculed for competing at this age 😅. Things are already in motion for multiple championships in 2026/27. So we will see what happens. Until then, we need to train.

After every competition it really is amazing the amount of people you meet and talk to, all sharing this same path and because of their love for this art x sport x culture. Promoting and spreading this activity is what it’s all about. It doesn’t really matter if you win or lose, it’s not about that. It’s about sharing this journey together to help promote this sport we love.

But it’s true what they say…

“Once a Lion Dancer….. Always a Lion Dancer”
