![Ta ladies of eye and heart! 🫀🫀👁️👁️@mother_tongue_magazine ! We’ve come a long way and have a long way to go 🙏🏾 all the love ♥️ #Repost @mother_tongue_magazine

(2/2) Captured by artists with vastly different experiences of caregiving, distinctive backgrounds and from around the world, there are many similarities among the photographs in “Eye Mama: Poetic Truths of Home and Motherhood:” a familiar pose or grip, an engorged belly, an identical poignant expression, the silhouette of a one-arm cradling figure. The collection is a testimony to the universal, fundamental, and multifaceted act of caregiving.
It was a labor of love for Arieli, who acknowledges the sacrifices — time away from her children, exhaustion, working with no funding — to make this book happen. Alongside nine other artists, she curated over 4,000 submissions. Ultimately, she hopes the book will be lasting proof of the magnitude of what it means to be a caregiver and mother, and seen by everyone. To make the invisible work of mothering, visible. “You don't have to be a mother to look at the motherhood narrative. You just need to be human…Why is it not everyone's business how mamas manage? To make sure that these things are seen, that has a lot of power.”
