gratitude and initial captures of @site_seen_arts “of frame and fallow” last night!!!

drove up on monday to install & got a look into the space, a former dollar general, that would be the place 51 artists would come to take over for one night only.

such a labor of love and admiration I have for @site_seen_arts @atelierwdstk_hudsonvalley @jen.miller.art — unbelievable work and effort that was felt in every corner, every light beam, every moment

was so fun to turn around the corner entering and seeing the transformation in full, and getting to absorb each artist’s contribution. in awe of the whole thing!!!

def not my last post about it, so many lovely pics 💛

Puff, puff, pass. @gallery14c presents Under The Influence—a show inspired by other artists. I loved seeing everyone’s work & inspirations. Mine is inspired by Marcel Duchamp.

SWIPE ➡️ to see a kismet encounter with my inspo irl (a urinal at the Tate Modern in London), process pics, and many other wonderful pieces on display in the gallery.
🔥 🚬 🔥Grateful to be included.

A little background:
I’ve been inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s work for many years. I first came across his readymade piece “Fountain” in an art history course while studying graphic design in college.
It was eye opening for me to realize that anything, no matter how ordinary, can be presented as fine art. I loved his sense of humor in showcasing an existing porcelain urinal in a new way, after assigning it a title, changing its positioning, and signing it “R. Mutt”.

The urinal inspired much debate about what art can and cannot be. I similarly find inspiration from everyday objects by recreating them from paper and collage. Typically, I’ve created 2-dimensional framed works, but have recently been inspired to create more sculptural assemblage pieces. Paper has long been my preferred medium, and l’ve begun painting and arranging it into forms that relate to my experiences.

The piece I created, “Ashtray”, is a fire alarm I recreated from paper and wood—very flammable materials. The top is already lifted to present a cigarette inside. With so much out of our control, I assembled this piece to confront my sense of helplessness when it feels like the world is a bit of a dumpster fire. When it feels like things aren’t changing for the better, especially in this political landscape, I wonder if we should just pull a cigarette instead and try to make the best of the situation, since it’s impossible to put out all the flames around us.

💕Please welcome to the universe Ayla Anne Isenbarger 💕

She landed on planet earth on Wednesday morning at 9:06 am for the lunar new year. Weighing in at 8lbs 3 oz and measuring 21.5 inches... she took her time to get here but came out screaming like a banshee and pooped on me immediately. We love her to the ends of time already💕

To behold that salt and pepper coif every day is a true gift. Thanks for taking care of me, on a day meant to celebrate you. I was really hoping to give you that daughter I’ve been cooking up today, but she’s a little shy or stubborn and doesn’t want to come out just yet. Glad we got some stellar pie at least. Can’t wait to see you shine as a dad. 🥰❤️🍾
