✍🏽Our latest in @forbes today: A story on an iconic corridor in Little Village, notable for its economic contributions to the city of Chicago and nationally for its Latino-owned presence, how a community responds to the administration’s mass deportation campaign and how it mirrors history we’ve seen in this city in the last 100 years.

Thank you to our sources for helping deepen this story and give insight into responses and long-term effects of federal policy volatility in an important time to contextualize and truth tell:

- Jennifer Aguilar, Executive Director, Little Village Chamber of Commerce
- Tonantzin Carmona, Fellow, Brookings Institution
- Ismael Cuevas, co curator of Rieles y Raíces at the National Museum of Mexican Art
- Patricia Rodriguez, owner of Paty’s Restaurant
- Evelyn Flores, owner of Alborada Quince

The power of 26th Street in short: Lauded as the “second Magnificent Mile” or sometimes “Mexico of the Midwest,” 26th Street in Little Village had reported to rake in $900M in annual revenue in recent years, all in the span of two miles. On a typical weekend, you might find parking hard to come by, smells of arrachera skirt steak and sounds of Norteño regional music spilling onto the main corridor. Here, resides a community that is more than 80 percent Latino, and highly entrepreneurial.

Life gets blurry, but by the grace of God we keep it pushing and prevail.

The homies know I tend to overthink on the music tip, pero al fín empeze aprender to just roll w/ it and let em fly. Always grateful to have homies in the corner to remind us what we capable of. Big shouts to those that hold us accountable to our gifts and push us to share them with the world where we can because that's what art is for. Lord know my soul definitely needed that.

On that note, swipe through the galla to the end for a preview of the next piece of art.

If you tell stories in any form, this is your moment. Our moment.

Storytellers help societies land on truth. We translate ideas, values, and histories across communities and generations. We contextualize what we are living through. Journalists help people understand something essential to a democracy: truth. And most importantly, storytellers build empathy.

In a moment when journalism is under pressure and documentation is shrinking, that role matters even more. We are absolutely a part of driving social change, as @deepaviyer maps in her Social Change Ecosystem Map.

Recently I spoke with Chicago storyteller @ishcuevas about the Rieles & Raíces exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art (@explorenmma), documenting the Mexican railroad workers who helped power the American economy and whose stories might have otherwise been lost.

If your craft is storytelling, keep documenting. What you preserve today shapes what we understand tomorrow.
