Dear friends,

The 2026 season of the NYC Plant Market concluded yesterday with a whopping 4235 visitors!! It's been a wild inaugural season and I couldn't ask for anything better.

Huge thank you to our partner, @culturelablic for being such an amazing host. We're aligned in goal and spirits, and I truly can't ask for a better partner.

Another huge shout out to our amazing volunteers!! You are all incredible and I can't thank you enough for bringing positivity, and life into this community market.

And lastly, the vendors and the plant community!! YOU all make this NYC Plant Market happen! ... In a bird's eye view, my role as an organizer is actually quite minimal. This is all you! ... You put your faith and trust in me and make this market amazing! I love you all!

For the time being, the market will be hibernating for the winter. We will come back stronger, better, and even more green and luscious in Spring 2027.

Please stay tuned for updates and announcements!

Your plant friend,

Nigel

Dahling, did you know? 🌿✨ Monstera deliciosa ‘Thai Constellation’ gets its name from the creamy, star-like speckling across its leaves—but there’s a lot more going on here than pretty variegation.

A few things I find fascinating:

🌿 Those creamy sections come with a trade-off. They contain significantly less chlorophyll, which means the greener parts of the leaf are doing more of the photosynthesizing. More variegation may be beautiful to us, but it means less photosynthetically active tissue for the plant.

🌿 Its variegation is relatively stable. ‘Thai Constellation’ is known for maintaining its characteristic speckled pattern, and tissue culture has helped make this once-harder-to-find plant much more widely available.

🌿 Letting it climb can change how it grows. Monstera deliciosa is naturally a climber. Providing substantial vertical support can encourage larger, more mature leaves and increasingly complex fenestrations.

🌿 Those aerial roots are part of the strategy. In nature, they help the plant anchor itself as it climbs. Indoors, they can be guided toward a support or back into the substrate.

🌿 And one of my favorite propagation facts: a leaf can have roots and still never become a new plant. A Monstera cutting needs a node with a viable axillary bud to produce a new shoot. 🌱

Come for the variegation, stay for the plant biology. 🌿

A few weeks ago at the @nyc.plantmarket I scored a ton of goodies. Got a couple of snake plants, an anthurium, an alocasia and a euphorbia! The market happens monthly, I think the next one might be this weekend! Here are the vendors I bought from in case you decide to try @ishyplants @notyouraveragesansevieria @vlyridgefarm

WE’RE OFFICIALLY BACK.

First GFTC Community Run of the season, and Bed-Stuy showed us exactly why we missed this.

New space. New home. New destinations.
New faces. New paces. Same GFTC energy.

This has never been about who’s the fastest. It’s about creating a space where everybody can move, connect, and feel like they belong. Whether you’re running your first mile or your thousandth, there’s room for you here.

And for our first one back? Led by the youngest ever. @jaxxparkergold The next generation already setting the tone.

Season 7 is officially underway.

BED-STUY, WE HOME.
All paces. All faces. One community.

See y’all at the next week! RSVP on @withforte.co or just pull up!!

Thank you @ishyplants for the new home!
