We train and study Capoeira, but the purpose of it all is the roda, the ritual.

What do we learn in the roda?
—Oral traditions are lived traditions. We learn the most in the time we spend together, in practice.
—Joy and community are resistance.
—“We’re generating energy for our own lives. Invest in your now to create your future.” — Mestre Cabello
—“Capoeira is meant to be dangerous, but not aggressive or violent.” — Mestre Cabello

Our monthly roda is open to the public. Come play, sing, or just watch.

Saturday, October 17 · 3:30PM

Were you a clown, improv, movement, devising, or Shakespearean acting student of mine? What did you think of this philosophy? What worked for you, what didn’t? If you weren’t a student of mine, are you interested in this approach to acting ?

The roda is where the practice comes alive.

Every month we come together to pressure-test what we've been building — in community, in ritual, in the roda.

Join us for our next roda:
Saturday, July 18th from 3:30–5:30pm @esquinabrooklyn

Whether you're a capoeirista or just curious, come witness and be a part of the roda.

Special thanks to the leadership and presence of our dear Mestre @cabello_caobijuba
and to the loving vision of @quiteastretch who captured these moments.
And thank you to each of my students who give their presence and spirit to the practice.
