In the evenings after we'd filmed each day I was editing the footage to assess if there were any reshoots needed the following day.

Our final day of Boxed In was full on, we needed approximately 100 shots to fill in bits we'd already filmed and then another 60 shots to film the remaining sequences, which consisted of Hugh's breakdown and the ending.

Chelsea was now sporting her fringe so we had to write in a convenient costume change to disguise this, which actually kept in line with Vivian's character. The big thing to get right was Hugh's psychological deterioration, and Chris gave two contrasting but equally phenomenal performances to capture this that really add shades of grey to his character. The sunlight casting rays into the space also provided us with some fantastic natural lighting to play with on this last day too.

Hugh, Beth, Vivian and Aaron all have their part to play in the culmination of the story and I think the final sequence of the film works as a much more full on experience than the play version we accomplished. The end of the world feels more encroaching and imposing than patiently and passively waiting for the characters to finish monologuing.

Blessed to work with such talent who brought their A games to a non stop schedule!

Deep into the edit as we speak. Hoping to be done mid December ready for a January premiere locally! Stay tuned!

Our third day filming Boxed In was supposed to be a wrap on the shoot, but that was always an optimistic goal. We'd saved the big dramatic scenes till last to build up to them, which meant we had several emotional outbursts to capture + simulate an earthquake and the end of the world entirely in camera within a 7 hour period, all while shooting the leftover scenes which hadn't been shot the night before.

In order to not feel rushed or jeapordise the quality of everything up until the point, I made the decision to add an extra day onto the shoot to get anything we failed to film that day. The most pressing matter was all of Chelsea's shots because she was booked in to get a fringe the day after, so all of her character's lines and visuals needed to be prioritised. It was an emotionally taxing day but one that yielded some fantastic results.

A little over a week ago we did our second half day of filming for the film version of Boxed In. We only had a few hours that afternoon (sandwiched between two full days of shooting) but we had the benefit of filming with the full cast this time, meaning we didn't have to strategically omit certain lines when filming scenes or arrange the frame to conceal the fact that a character wasn't actually on set at the time.

No emotionally taxing scenes to shoot that day, just chronologically trying to get as much done as possible. We fell slightly short of the shot list I'd storyboarded but we'd made a considerable dent in the workload 🙌

Day 3 update tomorrowwww
