Did you know that the crawling stage of development is more than just about moving forwards. It is a stage which involves motor control, cognitive and emotional aspects as they learn to move away from their mum/caregiver and move towards a toy or object. This is the first stage of independence.

Before crawling, babies may learn to push themselves around while they are on their back or they may pivot around themselves while on their belly.

Many will creep forwards or backwards before learning to get their knees under their hip joints to lift their pelvis.

Crawling strengthens the arms, legs, back, tummy muscles and requires a baby to balance on their hands, knees and feet.

In order to get to that stage the symmetrical tonic neck reflex (STNR) needs to be integrated. Often we see babies on their knees with their arms out straight rocking forwards and backwards getting ready to get up into the position for crawling. This is how they integrate the STNR.

Babies arrive at the crawling stage at different times and some babies miss it altogether.

Child’Space classes provide an environment and stimuli to help babies experience what they have skipped so that they can gain experience of the elements missed to help them with the next stage of development.

Classes start in January 2027.

Private sessions are available now in Tonbridge and Lewes.

Hello, I’m Ismini Integrated Movement & Rehabilitation specialist for adults and babies, teaching Intuitive Pilates, The Feldenkrais Method®, The Child’Space Method® and bootybarre®.

This is my account dedicated to The Child’Space Method®.

I love Child’Space® because it is based around the Feldenkrais Method® and provides a holistic movement based framework to support your baby’s physical, cognitive and emotional growth from until walking.

I never look for what a baby can’t do but rather what it can do. Prior to working with a baby and their caregiver, I observe and meet the baby where it is. From there I work on mapping the baby’s body into its developing brain to help improve its coordination, balance and spatial orientation.

I empower parents to observe and monitor their baby’s development, to trust their intuition and to learn hands-on skills so that they can replicate what I do to help their baby.

Through Child’Space® techniques the baby is stimulated and learns organically through movement. It is well known that movement invokes positive change in the developing brain. The method also improves co-regulation and attunement between the baby and its parents/caregivers leading to a deeper attachament.

Child’Space is also invaluable for children with special needs and neurological conditions because it directly works with the central nervous system.

Does all this sound interesting to you?

Are you curious enough to dive deeper and find out more?

Child’Space classes are available in Tonbridge and private sessions are available in Tonbridge and Lewes. Check out my website for more details - link in bio.

I look forward to meeting you.

If you haven’t heard of The Child’Space Method®️you might be wondering why you should choose it over a different mum and baby class.

Here are 10 reasons which make Child’Space unique.

1. It provides a holistic, movement-based framework to support your baby’s physical, cognitive and emotional growth from birth until walking.

2. It utilises touch techniques for body mapping and brain development to improve coordination, balance and spatial orientation.

3. Empowers you with hands-on skills and trains you to observe and monitor development and to trust your intuition.

4. Deepens parent-baby connection for greater emotional attunement.

5. Enhances core motor “milestones” by preparing babies for transitions like rolling over or coming to sitting.

6. Prevents developmental frustrations by recognising difficulties early and teaching you and your baby how to overcome them, eg if your baby is struggling to roll over or to creep.

7. Respects your baby’s temperament and meets your baby where it is. This approach means it’s fun and playful rather than overwhelming.

8. Boosts self-regulation and calming through structured touch, rhythm and movement teaching babies how to manage their nervous system.

9. Fosters lifelong confidence and autonomy by balancing self-guided exploration to encourage your baby to problem solve.

10. Effectively supports special needs. While Child’Space is highly beneficial for all babies, it offers targeted support for conditions such as prematurity, torticollis, asymmetry, low or high muscle tone, cerebral palsy and more.

Child’Space teaches you that you don’t need complex equipment or expensive gadgets to stimulate your baby’s development.

“My baby only turns to right (or left)” or “my baby can only pivot in one direction” are often comments parents say to me.

That’s very normal because like adults babies develop habits and will go for the easy option.

This is where The Child’Space Method®️ can help.

During a Child’Space session we meet your baby where it is and then through fun activities and explorations we teach it to find alternative ways of moving so that it can move in multiple directions.

The earlier this happens the easier it is for your baby to learn so it can enjoy rolling right and left, or pivoting clockwise or anti-clockwise.

During the process the connection between you and your baby deepens.

Your baby’s curiosity is sparked,

But

Have I opened your curiosity to find out more?

Wishing a warm, warm welcome to everyone who has recently clicked ‘follow’! It is so wonderful to have you here. And to our longtime community, thank you as always for sticking around and trusting us.

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Kate Valentine, Founder of Valentine Voice Care. Hi!

My journey into this world started on stage as a professional opera singer. When I suffered a severe vocal injury at the height of my career, my world turned upside down. Navigating that recovery taught me not just how vulnerable the human voice can be, but also how rare it is to find holistic support, and evidence-based care tailored specifically to what voice users ACTUALLY go through.

That experience has been the catalyst for everything which has followed. My mission is simple: to support and change our industry, one voice and one conversation at a time.

What started as a single treatment room in a multi-purpose space in Lewes grew to a sister location in Glasgow, and eventually led us to fulfil our dream: a purpose-designed Voice Care Centre in Lewes, where my career as a singer first began.

Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of building an extraordinary team of specialists across both locations offering holistic care, education and training. I was recently very chuffed to hear that ChatGPT recommended us to a client as offering “expertise with warmth and kindness.” I couldn’t have described our core ethos any better myself! I am incredibly proud of what we have built together.

While a large part of our heart is devoted to performers, and professional voice users, our doors are wide open to everyone who has a voice. Whether you need to release neck and jaw tension, improve vocal comfort or confidence, or just feel better in your body - we are here and love working with every single one of you.

Every member of our team brings high-level, continually updated qualifications grounded in science and real-world performance experience and care.

When we say we get you, we’ve got you - it’s because we do.

Drop a line in the comments to say hello and drop us a DM anytime! 🎤✨

What is The Child’Space Method®️?

Good question!

As a Child’Space Method®️ practitioner I work with parents/caregivers and their infants in supporting and stimulating their child’s physical, emotional and psychological development with floor based activities, touch, music and play.

The Method is unique and meets the infant where it is, in order to stimulate organic learning through movement.

Movement is known to be able to invoke positive change in the development of the brain.

It also improves co-regulation and attunement between the parents/caregivers and babies leading to deeper attachment.

Sessions are offered as group classes or individual sessions.

Classes are starting in Tonbridge soon, so head to the link in bio to find out more! ⬆️

Meet Ismini of @ismini_studios .
Ismini is a regular singing client of mine at @valentinevoicecare and we have so much fun in her lessons.

Ismini is a functional movement coach and Feldenkreis practitioner, so she brings such an explorative, curious and body-aware attitude into the space. In many ways, we learn from each other and have continuously fascinating conversations around how our bodies and brains find mental maps for things.

There is something so wonderful about the Feldenkreis modality that I’ve personally explored in my own body. I’d encourage any singer to explore it if you haven’t already.

Inspired by her singing lessons (which she takes for pleasure) Ismini has also started incorporating straws, windmills and gentle phonation into her movement and Pilates classes (even with non-singers) because the attention to an easy out breath is doing magical things for her clients. How’s that for cross-pollination of the best kind?

🫶🏼This bitter earth may not be so bitter after all

I have been listening to this song, and this stunning arrangement in particular, on repeat recently. It’s melancholic but full of hope and love.

It’s been a year, hasn’t it? For small businesses like ours, for our industry, for us as human beings trying to navigate this harsh and unpredictable world. And just like that, it’s Christmas!

But remember this - we’ve got each other, and that makes all the difference. There is always support - we just have to be brave enough to ask for it.

As we sign off for the Christmas break I’d like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all of you for trusting VVC. Your trust truly means everything. It’s what allows us to keep doing this work we do: supporting our industry and all those who sail within her. You’ve got us just as much as we’ve got you. We know that. We feel it. Thank goodness for community.

Time for all of us to switch off, to be with the people we love, and recharge for 2026.

🎄Merry Christmas from all of us at VVC 🎄

Rolling is fundamental for babies to learn to feel themselves in gravity. It’s equally important for adults, to stay supple!

Childspace Method™️ and the Feldenkrais Method are wonderful ways to learn how to move and feel better!
