Isobel Shore Caustic (2026) Oil on Linen 70 x 45 cm On Display as part of ‘Enhancing the Subject’ at UNITOM Projects until 24th October 2026 @isobelshore @apollopaintingschool Isobel Shore (b. 1999) is a painter living and working in Manchester. She graduated from the inaugural Apollo Painting School in 2024 and was selected for the 2025/26 cohort of New Contemporaries. Her work has been shown both in the UK and internationally, notable exhibitions include: ‘In Celebration of Shadows’, GRIMM Gallery, NY, (USA) and ‘A Journey into The Unknown’, Haricot Gallery, London (UK). In her paintings, visuality is foregrounded through the interplay of colour, light and form, where the visual dynamics interact and transform observed reflections into luminous compositions that occupy an equivocal space. 📷 @michaelpollardphotography

We are open this week as usual and come down to the gallery to see our current exhibition, ‘A Journey Into The Unknown’. Works on show by: @seohyunzzx @isobelshore @mannat_gandotra_ In June 1943, Adolph Gottlieb and Mark Rothko exhibited their new paintings in an exhibition of the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors. Edward Alden Jewell, a senior critic at the New York Times, gave a lukewarm review of the show, focusing on Gottlieb and Rothko. In response, Rothko and Gottlieb decide to pen a letter directly to Jewell. The letter highlighted five aesthetic beliefs that were central to the artists’ new direction. This letter served as the first formal statement of concerns of the artists who became known as the Abstract Expressionists. The gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from 11am-6pm and Saturday from 12pm-5pm. Rebecca visited Blackpool last week with Mahrokh to see Louise Giovanelli’s current exhibition ‘From Here To Here To Here’, alongside Apollo Painting School graduates’ exhibition at Grundy Art Gallery. Two fantastic painting exhibitions. Well worth the trip over from Manchester (even in the pouring rain! ☔️). Louise and Apollo have been instrumental in putting Manchester on the map for contemporary painting in recent years, which we are all really grateful for. 🎨 The evening included a great talk by Grundy Art Gallery Curator Paulette Brien in conversation with Louise Giovanelli, as well as Dr Chiara di Stefano from the National Gallery on Monet. For A Moment It Was Spring, 2026 140x160cm oil on canvas On view at @haricotgallery until 10 June For a Moment, It Was Spring came from the feeling of winter ending and spring slowly arriving. I wanted to capture that brief moment when everything feels uncertain but alive at the same time. Poppies begin to grow, birds move across the sky, and the landscape seems to shift between seasons. Although the scene is imaginary, it reflects a very personal state of mind and a feeling of being completely present—holding onto a fleeting moment of change before it disappears.
