Donald E. Larew, a member of Delta Upsilon and 1963 ISU graduate with a degree in Interior Design, is our next 150 Everyday Heroes honoree.

After working in his field for three years, Donald received a Master of Fine Arts in a Dramatic Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1969. He was very active with the Iowa State Players during his first year of college at ISU. He also designed scenery for two SOV productions, the last being THE MUSIC MAN when Meredith Willson served as Grand Marshall of the VEISHEA parade and Wilson and his wife during the intermission of the show performed two numbers from his Broadway show opening that winter.

Donald served on the Theatre Arts faculty at North Dakota State University from 1969 to 2009 retiring as a Professor Emeritus. He also served as the faculty advisor for the NDSU chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity from its installation as a chapter in 1970 for 30+ years. In addition, for the first three years he was also the regional Province Governor for the International Fraternity for the chapters of Delta Upsilon in North & South Dakota, Minnesota, northern Iowa and central Canada. His continued involvement with the fraternity brought many challenges and rewards working with young men guided by the fraternity principle of “Justice Our Foundation.” The leadership experiences Donald had in his undergraduate fraternity provided him with confidence and skills that served him well in his management of creating theatrical productions and his limited chairmanship of the department during the conversion from the quarter system to semesters.

Donald's advice: "Take advantage of the opportunities that a Greek system house can provide you with a home and a family in support of your academic and personal growth."

Thank you for living out your values and being an everyday hero, Donald!
