Chuffed. A week ago we closed the Art of Italicus Global Final at the Beaufort Bar, the Savoy, where Italicus was launched 10 years ago.
Eight years of this competition.
We built it and then hosted it. The welcome packs, the trophies, the back bar, the goodies bags, the briefs, everything behind the curtains.
@ustinharrington won with his drink Science Fair and some chemistry šŸ§‘ā€šŸ”¬ and every finalist in that room earned their place, I’m proud of every one of them and their journeys
Special thanks to the judges, the @italspirits and @abvventure teams for all the hard work done during the past months.

What’s one competition moment you still think about? šŸø

10 things I learned in 10 years building ITALICUS:

1. Believe in your vision when others don’t...
Don't blindly follow industry dogma. Trust your instincts, hunt your own luck and stick to your plan.

2. Success attracts people — but not everyone deserves a piece of it.
Know who genuinely contributed and protect what you created. As #michaeljordan23šŸ€ once said:
ā€œThey can feel it, but they'll never fill it or deserve it.ā€

3. Hire a good lawyer and accountant. Early.
Understand your numbers and protect your business. When you're dealing with large corporations, investors, distributors and different countries, good legal advice is essential.

4. Everyone sees the success. Few see the sacrifice.
Behind the awards, travel and celebrations are years of time, money, pressure and personal sacrifice. Decide what you're prepared to give up — and keep going.

5. The on-trade can build what advertising cannot buy. Brand are build within on trade; cases are sold in the off-trade.

6. Distribution is not demand.
Being in 40 markets means little if the product isn't moving. Focus on rotation, then depletion. Volume will follow.

7. Profitability gives you choices. Awards don't.
Awards and press are great. Revenue and growth are essential. Never confuse industry recognition with business success. Manage your ego.

8. What gets you from 0 to 5 won't necessarily get you from 5 to 50.
Founders thrive on vision, instinct and energy. Scaling requires systems, structure and management.

9. Choose partners for the difficult days.
Partnerships are easy when everything is growing. You discover the real quality of investors, distributors and partners when things go wrong. Tough conversations are for strong people. Don’t avoid them — they’re often where the most important decisions are made.

10. Know when your job is done.
Ask yourself: ā€œIs there anything else I can achieve here?ā€
Build something valuable enough that others want to invest in its future — and know when it's time to build something new.

10 years. Thousands of lessons. Plenty of mistakes. No regrets. šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹šŸ„‚
