Um regresso a casa.

Once you start the Film Festival Circuit, it’s difficult to guess how the film will be received, and how any audience will react.
The magic of the moving image is precisely that one: the anticipation of a reaction from someone looking at a screen and relating to a story.
Rio de Janeiro has been a home away from home for BRO Cinema since we started, so having the Brazilian Première there of Maria Vitória is a return to where we feel completely at ease.
Meeting friends and partners, and sharing that moment with those you love would always be special.
And it was. It really was.
Thank you to all those who came to see the Film and whom we could see and hug once again.
Film is about feeling something.
The only thing we felt was love.

For a Film which premièred in Tokyo, and which has undergone a personal, whimsical and poetic journey for all those involved, to cross the Atlantic and present it at the Rio Film Festival is a sort of singular serendipity.
This is a film about family experiences told through an incredible storytelling, something which Brazil has also given Mário Patrocínio at so many levels.
In fact, Brazil was home for Mário for a few years, and holds a special place in his heart (so does Pão de Mel).
It’s a return home, in so many ways. Full circle.
As it is, we couldn’t be more proud and happy to be in Rio, taking Maria Vitória from the mountains of Serra da Estrela to the lush peaks of the Floresta da Tijuca. A kind of creative trekking.
Chover no molhado (and the weather will start to pick up, go figure).

Maria Vitória by Mário Patrocínio at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

BRO CINEMA is very proud and happy to take a film, which has meant so much for our Team, across the Huangpu River for its Chinese Première at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
This pit stop is another chapter in the film’s incredible journey, which funny enough started in the East with its first showings in Tokyo.
This is much more than a simple landmark, as it showcases the incredible talent of all involved.
One for the Team, and one Team for Xiao Long Bao Dumplings.
Films can be food for thought, right?

As Films start their complex circuit through Festivals around the world, those who made them can’t help to imagine how audiences will react to it, sometimes in a foreign language and culture, and how and if the public will embrace them.
In a way, even if you have all the right ingredients, translated through an incredible cast and crew members, an extraordinary story, great photography and editing, and sound, the best costume and make-up design, and the crucial support of a magic wand (we all need a bit of good luck), nobody really knows what will happen when we send any Film abroad.
As such, when one of our own makes us proud on the other side of the Atlantic, it’s always a team work ethic we share as the greatest award and accolade.
Maria Vitória by Mário Patrocínio has just won the Best Foreign Film award at the Arizona Film Festival.
Thank you, from the heart of, to all those who made the magic happen.
Films can now travel fast through a Web Link, but no technology can beat human empathy, and an audience.
