Oss Oss! I’seen the Blue!

A huge thank you to our friend @itchy__trigger for sharing some wonderful footage of the Blue Oss emerging from its stable this morning — a rare and powerful moment of Cornish tradition in motion.

Known as the “Peace Oss” or Blue Ribbon Oss, this spirited figure was born from the Temperance movement in the late 19th century, offering a sober counter to the revelry of the Red Oss. Emerging from the Padstow Institute with music and ceremony, the Blue Oss dances through the streets with its own energy and devoted following.

While newer than the Old (Red) Oss, the Blue Oss holds deep meaning — a symbol of unity, balance, and tradition in its own right. Later today, if fate allows, it may meet the Red Oss at the Maypole, where both will dance together, echoing an age-old ritual of light, spring, and shared heritage.

Thank you again, Tim, for capturing this moment so beautifully.
