If you’re coming to the Open Dutch in January, be sure to take some time to visit Helmond Castle as well.
It’s definitely worth a visit and beautifully situated in the city centre! #tkd #taekwondo #itftaekwondo #helmond #tkdlife

Scotland Moves Closer to Unity
The ITF World Cup 2026 in Benidorm was an intense time not only on the rings. Beyond the competition, important work was underway for the global ITF community — including a major step towards unity in Scotland.

After two years of dialogue, consultation and mutual effort, Scotland’s two Taekwon-Do associations signed an agreement establishing a framework for their unification. The agreement creates a common path forward and includes a key commitment: to form a unified Scottish team ahead of the 2027 World Championships in Paraguay.

Taekwon-Do teaches us that we share one teacher, one oath, one set of tenets and one code of conduct. Yet, as human beings, we inevitably see the world from different perspectives. Eastern philosophy reminds us that harmony does not mean the absence of difference, while Western thought teaches that unity is strongest when it is built through dialogue, respect and shared responsibility. In Benidorm, both Scottish associations chose that harder, wiser path.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Ethan Donnelly, Treasurer of the National Association of Scotland, on behalf of President Sbn Adam Patterson, and Master Mark Hutton of the Allied Association of Scotland, on behalf of President Master Brian McGowan. Master Gustavo Livon, Chair of the ITF Merger Committee, witnessed the signing.

The ITF thanks both associations for their openness, goodwill and commitment, as well as Master Philip Lear, GM Paul Weiler, GM Clint Norman and Sbn Fernando Arrua for their support in bringing this milestone to life.

More steps remain before the merger is complete. But the signing in Benidorm is a powerful beginning — proof that, despite different perspectives, Taekwon-Doin can move forward together: stronger, more united and guided by the values we all share.

The juniors are always well represented in large numbers at the Open Dutch, and they are of a very high level. Here is a great score featuring a hand technique from this year’s junior match. #itftaekwondo #taekwondo #tkd #competition #champion
