There’s more to becoming a great player than what happens on the court. 🐍

The hours of training matter. The reps matter. The strength and conditioning matter.

But so does learning how to control your mind.

Kobe spoke openly about meditation and the role it played in helping him become more present, focused, and prepared.

In basketball, things happen quickly. A bad call. A missed shot. A turnover. A big moment. The next possession is always coming.

You can’t control everything that happens.

You can control how you respond.

Learning to slow your mind down allows you to stay locked into what actually matters — the moment in front of you.

Don’t just train your game.

Train the mind behind it. 🧠

Functional strength > chasing size. 🏀🏋🏽‍♂️

One of the most overlooked parts of basketball training is understanding that more weight isn’t always better. Although, for some players gaining weight is very necessary, but hoopers should value functional strength over just looking big.

In this clip, LeBron talks about Steph Curry’s physical development over the years, and Steph explains how gaining weight early in his career actually affected his shot. Through experience, he learned that every player has an optimal body composition that allows them to move efficiently, stay explosive, and maintain their skill level.

For basketball players, strength should enhance your game—not take away from it.

✅ Stronger core for balance and stability
✅ Better force transfer through shooting and finishing
✅ Improved durability and injury prevention
✅ Functional movement that translates to on-court performance

Before trying to put on 10-20 pounds, ask yourself: Will this help my game, or could it affect the skills that got me here in the first place?

Train for performance, not just appearance.
