Don’t you just love it when you cross paths with some of your favorite people, even after decades?! In the past few days, I’ve been blessed to have that happen twice with Drake friends I hadn’t seen since we all graduated over 40 years ago! 💙 While in Iowa City for Alex’s graduation, we ran into Matt and Holly Crowl at our dinner venue — and it was so fun to catch up! Holly was co-chair of the SAB Drake Relays committee when I served on it my freshman year, and I followed Matt as VP of the Student Body / Chairman of the Student Activities Board (SAB). Looked up to them both! And today, I had brunch with my friend and fellow orientation counselor (summer 1983!) Hillary Baskin Semmelman! Her daughter Maya is a current student at Drake, and I met her last fall at a Drake event -- after she addressed the crowd and shared a story about how her mom’s time at Drake and special memories like being an orientation counselor, and I realized she was Hillary’s daughter! I saw Maya again at the John Green “Bucksbaum lecture” in April, and this connection has just been a joy! Best wishes to Maya for her upcoming senior year at Drake and serving as an intern for Donald V. Adams Leadership Institute! So many great Drake memories…

Congratulations to our son Alex Mona on receiving his Master of Science in Business Analytics from University of Iowa! We are so incredibly proud of his hard work and dedication the past 5 years to complete his undergraduate double major last year with highest honors, and now his Master’s— and landing a great job offer with IBM in Atlanta! My heart is so full at the wonderful young man you’ve become, Alex - caring, generous, creative, industrious, funny. So grateful to share this time together! ❤ 🖤 💛 #family #gohawks

So much fun to spend time with 3 generations of Mona cousins with Mike’s brother Jerry Mona and his wife Lisa visiting from Texas, and two of their 3 lovely daughters with their adorable families! Katie and Adam McGovern were here from KC with their 3 sweet girls (and one on the way!), and Haley and Cody Robarts were here from CT with their 2 smiling boys! Seeing Katie’s 3 girls reminded me of a photo we have from our wedding day (October 3, 1998) with Jerry and Lisa’s 3 girls — at the same ages! ❤ All the kids had fun with our cats! 🐈 Looking forward to our next visit! 😉 #family #cousins #blessed

Wonderful visit with our Butler cousins today in Red Oak — feeling blessed to have this family and the chance to share memories and catch up on the latest happenings! Our small family originally from Southwest Iowa gathered from Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa in Red Oak for lunch, and visited for nearly 3 hours! Thanks to all who made the trip — Love you, and look forward to the next time! ❤ #family #cousins #grateful #blessed

Well, that was fast! Congrats to Alex on his graduation from the University of Iowa, with University Honors and Highest Distinction - so proud of this hardworking kid! We had a wonderful time celebrating as a family throughout the weekend! Amanda is back in Boston tonight and Alex made it home to start his summer internship tomorrow at F&G in Des Moines. He’ll be back in Iowa City next fall to finish his Master’s in Business Analytics — and we’ll have another graduation in May 2026! 🖤 💛 #gohawks
