What a full-circle moment. I first came to the American Public Health Association in 2012 as a APHA Student Assembly leader, and over the years I’ve had the opportunity to present, support colleagues (including my own employees), and cheer on the loves of my life from UCF and Spelman. This year, I’m returning as an invited speaker on TWO panels for the APHA Women’s Leadership Institute:

As I close out these graduation posts, I keep coming back to one sentiment - I didn’t get here alone.

To my tribe: thank you for carrying me when I couldn’t carry myself. Thank you for the emotional labor, the check-ins, the hours on the phone, the prayers, the laughs, the shared reels, the shoulders to cry on, and yes…the cuddles when I simply didn’t have legs to stand on. From helping me land a job, to moving without any worries, to defending my dissertation, to celebrating this second doctoral degree, you all were there for every milestone. Your love and support didn’t just encourage me, it filled me on days where I was empty - and, quite frankly, kept me seen some days. 🩷

A special thank you to my “baby” brother, Big G, who never misses a beat. You've shown up for some of the biggest moments of my adult life without ever having to be asked. I don't take any part of our relationship for granted. And Daysha, we didn't get a pic, but my face that day was your representation! 😛😘 You two have been the duo I never knew I needed.

And to everyone who called, texted, prayed, celebrated, reposted, and loved me from near and far, thank you. I will never forget how deeply held I felt during this season. God has been so faithful, and He surrounded me with the very best people. For that, I am forever grateful.
