lasts are hard. this summer had tons of goodbyes, tons of lasts, tons of anticipated grief. as i was gearing up to head off for puppy college, all of my family was gearing up to say goodbye. mom and i tried so hard to have a different outlook. we focused on the firsts. the new things i could do since advancing so far in my training. firsts of some super cool new trips we took. first time meeting new friends. first time camping (and a million more after that one). i went to build-a-bear for the first time and picked out a dog for mom to hug when she misses me. i gave hugs, snuggles, and kisses like ive done a million times before, but are still the best ever. i went to the aquarium for the first time- mom says im bomb proof! took my first trip to the creek and thank goodness more after that. i even tapped into my creative side and painted for the first time. we both (all) grew, learned, and loved through all of the firsts and inevitably the lasts too.
