World IBD Day is today,May 19, and we want to take a moment to recognize everyone in our community living with Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis while also navigating infertility.

Jewish individuals have higher rates of IBD, which makes this conversation especially important for us to have. Over the past few years, we were honored to sit down with renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Uma Mahadevan to talk about the medical side, and with the incredible Cassie of @itschronicallycassie , who shared her personal journey through Crohn's and IVF with such honesty and heart.

Both Instagram Lives are saved and waiting for you in our Instagram Live Archive on the Jewish Fertility Foundation website (click on the Resources tab from the top of the homepage!) You can also check out @pianoibd for more information. Because no one should have to figure this out alone.

Still processing this one of a kind weekend… I really cannot thank the @crohnscolitisfoundation enough for recognizing me and my story and allowing me to share it with so many amazing people who have their own battle with Crohn’s and colitis or are part of immensely important support teams. I am so thankful for every person I met after speaking, you truly made this experience all the more spectacular and put my entire journey in perspective. Just wish my big sister and fellow Crohn’s kid @ldriftcom could have been up there with me!
To my people… you know who you are and I love you all!

An added bonus, we got to celebrate my sweet Mama’s bday a little early! She still refuses to age, though.

Last night I had the chance to step in for my guy @jacobrossmanxcazle at an event — I figured it would just be a typical evening of connecting and supporting other professionals.

But it turned out to be something way deeper.

The event was for Crohn’s & Colitis, something I’ll admit I knew very little about. I walked in unaware of how many people quietly live with this every single day — including @cass.grady , @itschronicallycassie, who not only hosted the event but has been personally battling it herself.

That hit me.

We never really know what people are going through behind the scenes. And yet, Cass continues to show up with strength, confidence, and grace — inspiring others while carrying her own challenges with so much poise.

It reminded me that sometimes you show up thinking it’s business… and walk away reminded it’s about people.

Proud of you, Cass, for not just hosting but impacting. 💜
And nice seeing you again as well @courtneyvusells

Meet our first IBD Hero of 2025, Cassie!

In 2012, as a freshman in college, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. I was young, far away from home, and trying to navigate adulthood while my body waged a war not many of my friends or family could understand. The years that followed were filled with countless medications, painful procedures, surgeries, and additional diagnoses that challenged me in ways I never imagined. One of the hardest battles was struggling with infertility alongside IBD, a heartbreaking chapter in my journey.

But today, I am in remission. Now, I feel called to advocate for others who are fighting for their health and searching for answers and clarity within their own bodies. To those still in the trenches: you are not alone. I want to be a voice of hope and strength for those who feel like giving up. Keep fighting, because you are SO much stronger than you realize. 💪🏻

Hi! 👋🏻 I’m Cassie. @itschronicallycassie
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2012, after dealing with rapid weight loss and severe symptoms in a matter of months. In 2019, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis and learned that the chances of carrying biological children were slim to none without IVF. I was 24. My husband and I then met Dr. Chason at Shady Grove Fertility, Annapolis, and we knew we were in the best possible hands. In 2019, after being diagnosed with OHSS and an ectopic pregnancy with tubal rupture, we had our first pregnancy loss.
In 2020 we were blessed with our first rainbow baby, a girl! She was perfect, but I ended up in emergency surgery yet again after placenta acreeta, a D&C, & a severe perforation in my upper uterus that led to my first code. In 2021, we had a failed transfer and yet another emergency surgery. In 2022, we were blessed with our son and another case of placenta acreeta and a post - delivery D&C. In June 2024 we got the news that shattered us to our core, with a full hysterectomy and Endometriosis removal surgery & ablation following in August 2024. It’s been just over 3 weeks since my last surgery, and I’ve finally decided to be as open and transparent as I’m mentally able to. I’ve decided to enter world of much-needed advocacy for those with similar stories. Say hello to Chronically Cassie. I’m glad you’re here. 🤍

Just doing a little “baby” botox!! 😅
Totally kidding, but did you know that at Drip, we are kid friendly?!
From a fellow mama, I know how hard it is to coordinate childcare with self care.
We’re happy to see ALL of you! ☺️
