MADONNA - My second time seeing the Queen of Pop live, and what an experience. I bought tickets the day before, and ended up with tickets in the front row of our loge, right behind the sound booth, where I met Madonna’s tour director.

The best part of the experience was being so much closer to her than I thought. Her stage extended all the way through the GA so we were really close. Madonna continues to inspire me over twenty years after my initial discovery.

A lot of people wonder why Madonna is my #1. My answer to them is always a version of this: When I was young, I didn’t have a ton of male role models. I looked to female pop acts as an escape because, a) the music was always fire, and b) because the standard was always higher for women. They were always outdoing their male counterparts because the bar was set so much higher for them.

Madonna’s work encouraged me to ask questions, to not be complacent, and to always look forward to the next thing. She showed me I could be whoever I wanted to be. I had the power to re-invent myself, to keep learning, and to always be open to new experiences, and avenues of self expressions.

Also, my first online purchase was a $27 Kabbalah string bracelet at the age of 15, so there’s that. 😂

I stay following her because I think she’s an interesting model for the human journey. She has enough money and power to never have to work again, but after four decades, her creativity continues. She ages in her own way, and expresses herself for herself and nobody else. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have seen her, and thankful to my concert buddy @scxttmichael for putting up with me while I twerked and did the squat dance on the loge gate to get her attention during Ray of Light and Don’t Tell Me (and yes, I and the two gays next to me from Providence were close enough to get her attention TWICE!)

Life is about experiences, and I couldn’t be more thankful for this one!

@samderosa I’m so proud of you. You put together your own tour of original music, and you flew all over the country to perform the songs that tell your story….two months after getting married!! 🤪 You’re f**king nuts, and by that I mean driven, inspired, optimistic, resourceful, and endlessly creative. Your heart comes through everything that you do. That’s why people love you 💖

My TO-DO today: live in the moment.

AND not take myself too seriously. SO I put myself eating milk and cookies on a shirt as a reminder (swipe) when life feels tough,eat a cookie. 😉
