📖 Delusions spiral toward disaster in Almost Rotten, the second book in the new dark, why choose, college hockey romance series from bestselling author Abby Millsaps.
He called me his wife.

My brother’s best friend and star hockey defenseman Tytus Tremblay stood in front of the Dean, declared we’re married, and bullied the man into bending to his will.

To Ty’s credit, it worked. My job is safe. The Dean has no idea who else was in the video with me.

But as the reality of the situation sinks in, I realize just how instrumental Tytus was in orchestrating this nightmare.

He’s delusional.

Tytus and I aren’t married, even though I used to dream about a future with him. That was before I met Mercer and Noah and allowed myself to fall for two older men.

Embarrassingly, when we’re locked away in my dorm, I give in to Ty’s delusions. I can’t help but push the limits, catapulting us toward his fantasies.

Now I’m torn between three men, so agonizingly confused I feel myself starting to slip away.

When Ty casually calls me his wife in front of his professional hockey team, I break.

I can’t go on like this. I can’t keep playing this game.

Every version of the future I dreamed of is slipping between my fingers. Irrevocable damage has been done, and I’m afraid nothing will ever be the same again.

Apparently, when your brother’s best friend decides you’re his wife, the sensible response is to question his sanity… not get locked in a dorm room and encourage his delusions. Welcome to Almost Rotten, where Tytus Tremblay has officially lost the plot, Mercer and Noah are complicating an already questionable situation, and Sawyer is caught between three men and a rapidly deteriorating grip on reality. Because why choose one red flag when you can have three? Ok that's a little harsh, we all know Noah is a walking green flag! But seriously this romantic disaster had me questioning if one girl could really make that dynamic work!

If you've read book one of Men of Evercrisp Orchard series, you would already know that @abbymillsaps is a true genius when it comes to writing emotionally challenging, complicated, heart wrenching, traumatic (can I add another descriptive word?!) back stories for her characters. Book two is no different! Do you need to read book one first, I mean no, but you will probably appreciate the dynamics at play a little quicker and probably not be blindsided by the whole Noah situation. But regardless you are in for an emotional rollercoaster!

Almost Rotten picks up with one very JEALOUS and DELUSIONAL Ty forcing Sawyer into a fake marriage and giving her an ultimatum to break things off with Mercer. It's messy. It's cruel. It's unhinged. And most of this book I wanted to scream at Tytus to get his head screwed back on and think about his actions. I went from team Tytus to honestly hating the kid! Ty's absolute possessiveness and delusions make the dark romance element of this book so uncomfortable and compelling. It makes you question what a healthy dynamic could ever look like between Ty and Sawyer because underneath it all, in a sad, twisted way there is mutual love.

And then there is Sawyer. I had to remind myself that she is a 20-year-old girl with a history of her own. Her questionable choices actually fit her story, but they still made me shake my head in frustration. She gets herself into one hell of a mess in this book! Communicate girl and stand up for what you want! Continued in comments...

This story is a continuation of a trilogy and cannot be read alone so if you haven't read book one and are interested, please go back! The cliffhanger from the last one led straight into it and the tension is felt straightaway. Ty is determined to make Sawyer his no matter the cost and she has no idea how much Ty is willing to destroy if it means he gets to keep her. The blackmail and pressure to choose Ty over Mercer and Noah eats away at Sawyer and you watch her slowly crumble as she tries to keep everyone happy but loses herself in the process. Sawyer has to decide how to navigate her bonded past with Ty alongside her newly developed bonds with Mercer and Noah and with Ty unwilling to see reason, Sawyer has to make difficult decisions. When she finally cracks, she leans on Mercer and Noah to revive and care for her battered spirit, but when Mercer goes rogue and lets his emotions cloud his judgement, it leads to another cliffhanger that somehow was worse than the first one!
Y'all I read this book in one day and it didn't even surprise me. I always love how Abby can add twists and turns to her stories and writes some of the most complex characters I've ever read in a why choose series. These characters and all the layers that encompass each one is unexpected for a contemporary romance and she has a way of not making a 'rinse and repeat' type-cast for her why chooses, but really fleshes out each member of the relationship in depth which I love. While I would recommend this story and all of Abby's stories, there are heavy elements, in this series specifically that, I don't know if they necessarily need a full trigger warning, but the dynamics between some of the characters are darker than I've ever read from her and if those elements aren't your cup of tea, just be prepared. Even after book 1 and the insane cliffhanger that we are left on (an Abby trademark) it's the hook that keeps me salivating for more and I am excited to embark on the rest of this journey and see how they find a way back from the brink. With stunning performances that bring these characters to life in all their traumatic glory, you don't want to miss the opportunity to listen on audio!

@novelidea_collabs presents to you: 𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖎𝖊𝖘 & 𝖘𝖍𝖆𝖉𝖔𝖜𝖘 👻

It’s officially October, which means it is time to turn down the lights and pretend that creaking sound in the hallway was just the house settling. 🔦🫣

Whether you are unravelling a dark historical mystery, getting lost in a paranormal world, reading a banned book, or just trying to survive a truly terrifying thriller, there is nothing quite like a book that makes you look twice at the shadows in the room.

🗞️🕸️🕯️📰🕷️⏳🕷️📰🕯️🕸️🗞️

Have you ever played any of the versions of Silent Hill, the psychological horror video game? Imagine being IMMERSED in that as a virtual reality scenario - along with the added bonus of restarting scenarios as if you were in Groundhog Day - all the while trying to evade someone jumping out of the shadows trying to END you!

Immersed by Gale Ian Tate brings all those vibes and more, all fantastically narrated by Devon Ryder and Michael Gallagher! They bring the heat, the feels, and the vibes!!

And when you come to discover that the person trying to end you…also wants you in every way? Wants to save you…make you evolve…and make you his? I was SO here for every minute of this eerie, fast paced, video game-inspired nightmare landscape that still brought fascinating characters and all the spice! I CANNOT wait for the audio sequel to come out!

Are you going to listen to it in the shadows brought on by low candlelight? Or will you be listening while comfy and protected under a cozy blanket with all the lights on?

She lost her kingdom. He destroyed it. Falling for him should definitely be off the table… and yet here we are. Heart of the Raven Prince throws a hidden princess, a winged vampire prince, ruthless fae, a demonic queen and a dangerous bargain into one gloriously dark romantasy. Fawn wants revenge, Caden wants freedom, and neither of them seems particularly interested in admitting that their hatred is starting to look suspiciously like attraction. Add slow-burn tension, deadly trials, secrets, betrayal and enough morally questionable decisions to keep things interesting, and you have a recipe for romantic chaos with fangs.

Fawn, the female main character, witnesses her parents' death and the total devastation of her kingdom. After sending her little brother to safety, Fawn hides her identity as Caden captures her and transports her to another land. Time works differently in this new realm, and Fawn's people have been enslaved thinking she had abandoned them over two months ago (when for Fawn it was a matter of hours). Not only does she need to navigate this new world whilst hiding her true identity, but she must earn back her people's trust. For anyone else, this would be too much to ask especially given the grief and torture Fawn has experienced, but Fawn is determined to see her people free at any cost. She will endure anything to prove she is the Queen they deserve.

I'm not sure how @parkeragarnerauthor did it, but I was intrigued from the very first chapter. Heart of the Raven Prince is filled with mystery and secrets that as a reader you can't help but try to put together. Without going into details that would inevitably involve spoilers, not everything in this world is as it seems and the distinction between good and evil has blurred lines. One minute I was hating on a character only to be swept off my feet by them in the very next chapter. I genuinely had no idea who I could trust, who I should be rooting for, or which character was about to make me completely change my mind. It's a rollercoaster I want to ride again and again! The worldbuilding, the twists, the characters and that deliciously torturous enemies-to-lovers slow burn? I was DONE FOR.
