ISCHIA
FR 24 JULI | 20:00 | WIEN MUSEUM (hosted by AK Wien)

Foto © Franziska Barcsay

Like every year since 2010 I’ve spent a good part of the spring listening to and checking out the 50 or so acts of Popfest Wien (as knowledgeably selected by the year’s curators Sofie Royer & Wolfgang Lehmann), writing an appreciation of each one of them, auf Deutsch naturgemäß. The whole programme has gone online today, under the usual link (in the comments). Viel Spaß damit.

hallo es gibt tolle neue tapes❣️

♦️SUNDL - GOTH HOUSING MC (Cut Surface/Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label) - mega-productive Turbo (hence the name) has yet another new - his 5th Solo - album out! & it’s fab & “probably not an album about darkness at all, but rather about consistency” but „music for souls who cite the smell of basement vaults as their relationship status“ ((c) Christoph Benkeser)! Great - als always - design by Studio Totale! On White Cassette, housed in re-sealable Sleeve. https://cutsurface.bandcamp.com/album/goth-housing

♦️VIC VELVET - MY HEART FEELS LIKE A COWBOY’S MC (Siluh) - the brandnew solo debut-album of Victoria Aron (of Topsy Turvy fame, who’ll btw also will have a new album out soon!) was recorded on a 4-track tape recorder w/her friend Felix Schnabl (aka Salamirecorder). Inspired by 60s sounds & feels, it‘s all about love, hope & the dreams, a young woman wants to chase. „Caught between busy youth & city walls, i long to return to where i once belonged to - colorful meadows & the freedom of a child running over fields with horses by my side.” (Vic Velvet) Factory sealed, on nyce Yellow Tape!

♦️ISCHIA - LEAVE ME TO THE FUTURE MC (Siluh) – (nyce Transparent-Violet!) Tape-version of the debut album by this great Viennese groop around front woman & (since you’ve asked) namesake Adele Ischia – superb songs from Krautrock to Post-Shoegaze Psychedelia but never leaving planet-POP - a mixture of humour & melancholy! https://ischia.bandcamp.com/album/leave-me-to-the-future
