If you were to ask me how the BTS concert was, I would’ve told you it was absolutely incredible. But if you asked me on a deeper level, I’d say it felt like a story that had been woven through so many chapters of my life finally becoming a moment I could actually touch.

I have known and loved these seven boys for 12 years, that’s more than half of my life. They’ve accompanied me through some of my most formative years. For younger Mei, they were her source of happiness, the place she’d obsessively turn to whenever she felt down. For older Mei, they’ve become 7 boys she’s grown up alongside and shared a journey with, 7 boys whose growth she has had the privilege of witnessing and whose dreams she hopes to continue supporting.

For so long though, they have only existed behind a screen, like a world parallel to my own. My mind doesn’t quite seem to be able to process that I was able to see them with my own eyes. It felt strange, like time wasn’t real and the concert passed in the blink of an eye. Somehow it felt like everything happened yet nothing happened at all, like waking up from a beautiful dream and wondering if it really happened. It just feels so surreal to me, it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

If you had told 12 old Mei that 12 years later she would see them live, she never would’ve believed you. This is a moment that’ll stay with me for the rest of my life. My only thought now is that I can’t wait to see them again. From 2014 to forever.
