Artist Spotlight: Four R&B artists worth your attention.

Late nights, darker production, and R&B built for after hours. Here are four artists putting their own stamp on the moodier side of the genre.

Cover: @itskalejoseph

@itskalejoseph – LOSSES

Ever since 1 of 1, everyone in underground R&B has known the name Kale Joseph. Since then, he’s continued to evolve his sound while turning that momentum into a genuine fanbase around the music. Now sitting at 300k+ monthly listeners, the question feels less like whether Kale can break through—and more like how far this run can take him.

@ssssanteriaaaa – Worth It

$anteria feels like one of Montreal’s best-kept secrets in dark R&B. His music carries a haunted, after-hours atmosphere, with vocal inflections that occasionally recall the raw eeriness of early The Weeknd. It’s the kind of sound that belongs to the hours when everything else has gone quiet—and one that deserves a much wider audience.

@cueoffline_ – run it back

Few artists build around desire quite like cue. His sexually explicit writing, addictive vocal melodies, and dark, late-night production all feed into the same world of intimacy and temptation. Every release feels like another chapter in that universe—confident, sensual, and unmistakably his own.

@blvdbradley – RENT FREE

BLVDBRADLEY has found plenty of room to evolve without losing the dark R&B identity at the center of his music. His vocal range lets him approach each record differently, while a sharp ear for production keeps everything tied together by the same late-night atmosphere. That balance between versatility and cohesion is what makes his sound feel increasingly refined.

Monthly R&B Favorites (August) / Cover: @keanurichal

August came through with an unreal amount of fire releases. @partynextdoor celebrated 10 years of P3 with an anniversary edition featuring fan favorite Some of Your Love, while @brentfaiyaz blessed us with the director’s cut of Icon, including my personal favorite, fallin’. @itskalejoseph kept his run going with the fire LOSSES, while @mazb11 brought bossa nova into the R&B mix with Coast To Coast. @therealartiej delivered another dark R&B banger with Models & Bottles, and @keanurichal and @a.v.i.r.o.y teamed up for off the bus, with both artists stepping into a fresher, more alternative R&B sound.

But that’s not all—so I’ve curated my 32 favorite R&B releases from August just for you.

The full list features some of the finest new R&B out right now, spanning dark R&B, alternative R&B, contemporary R&B, and more. You can find everything in the “why R&B matters” playlists. Link in bio.
