There is something so special about one person identifying something their community needs and then choosing to make it happen.

That’s the beauty behind @mvblackbookfestival and I was so glad to be able to support those efforts this year. It’s a book festival that you should have on your radar because I know it’s only going to get bigger as time goes on thanks to the genius woman behind it all💗

It was a joy seeing authors I adore and getting to be in convo with Reshonda Tate about With Love from Harlem. And I also got to hear lots of other engaging convos throughout the day. It was just what I needed as a reader!

I had a phenomenal time at the @mvblackbookfestival . I met so many great authors, hugged so many readers and had the opportunity to chat about books and the writing process. 💕To be on the vineyard is to breathe in fresh air, slow down, rest, take time to say hello to a friendly new face or hug an old friend. I came for the amazing book festival. I fell in love with the rich history of this place, the beautiful sights and the wonderful spirits of the residents and visitors who take this trek annually. A special thank you to @traciwilkessmith1 for creating such an awesome book festival and welcoming me and my fellow authors with open arms. This is truly a “can’t-miss” festival. 💕 #mvblackbookfestival

😭😭😭😭

The Martha’s Vineyard Black Book Festival, @mvblackbookfestival, was spectacular! I look at this recap and just start bawling because I am still in awe that feeling good about my knotless braids while on vacation led to all of this!! I thank God that when the song portion of my poem came to me while in California, that I not only recorded it in a voice note, but that I followed up and turned it into a poem celebrating Black girls and their braids, and amplifying @thecrownact! Five years and millions of streams later, “A Black Girl and Her Braids” is a @aalbc best-selling book, and sold out at MVBBF!! 😭😭😭😭

Thank you, @traciwilkessmith1 for creating this space and accepting me to participate! Being surrounded by so many brilliant authors was soul-filling! Being poured into by so many Black women was deeply affirming and special.

My book sold out before I did a panel or signing! This is a testament to the message and stunning book @prismaviolet_ illustrated! Folks were drawn to that cover!!

Beyond grateful to have my husband there to witness it all! Couldn’t do it without him! Out of anybody, he knows the work that goes into making this happen!
