With over 250 nominations, the Toronto Community Champion Award selected 25 organizations as the winners. On 05/15/25, we celebrated this monumental achievement with all the winning organizations and the @cityofto and @uwgreaterto who made it possible.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am to God, our team and everyone in our community who has supported us. This is the first time we have won an award in nine years of doing this work. It’s surreal that we, as the youngest and as the only unincorporated grassroots artists collectives, were able to win this award. 🥹

There are so many full-circle moments involved in this from:

— fundraising for United Way in high school to receiving an award from Heather McDonald, the CEO & President of United Way GTA.

— taking a course with former Professor Olivia Chow in the Institute for Change Leaders, which ignited the activism-focused side of Flaunt-It’s work, and I am now receiving an award from her as well @mayoroliviachow.

— starting #FlauntItFridays shortly after graduating from @theremixproject’s Round 12.0 Video Stream and now sharing the stage and award with them as well, as they continue to be one of the biggest inspirations to our programming.

This is a win for Jane & Finch. Thank you to @successbljf for being our trustee. Thank you to Ashley T. @the_bifecta for nominating us and for @jfcf.centre + @kadiibarrie for being our references. Thank you to the selection committee for truly believing in our work.

Sharing this achievement with many organizations we genuinely look up to is a dream come true. But none of this would have been possible without everyone who’s been a part of this movement. Thank you for empowering & validating our work before we even got this recognition.

We will continue to serve our community wholeheartedly because this is a win with everyone who has shaped us into who we are today. Despite all the challenges we’ve been going through, there’s nothing we won’t get through together, and we are so excited for you to see the next chapter of our Movement. 🙏🏽❤️

Happy 2024 🥳🫶🏽

2023 has truly been so special. Looking back, everything I went through and accomplished last year feels unreal. From publishing two books, leading our largest team and series of initiatives, to getting to travel for work + travel in general, graduating, opening a studio, attending more events and truly living life more.

But also, it was a year of more rest/days off — reconnecting with so many loved ones — strengthening current relationships — making more time to be with family — learning how to be there for myself more — doing things that bring me joy & the list goes on.

Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of my 2023. Glory to God in the highest, always. Praying for a prosperous 2024 for us all 🙏🏽💕

A closer look at our transformative journey this past year 👀 🔍

In August 2022, our incredible real estate agent @ramonrealty guided us through various units at 1110 Finch Ave West, leading us to the Studio we proudly call ours today. By October 2022, we officially received the keys and embarked on our renovation adventure immediately.

Embracing the highs and lows of our journey 🌟🛠️
• Evacuated on day one due to an unexpected fire incident 😅 🚒
• Opted for DIY carpet removals over expensive floor quotes
• Applied four coats of white stainless paint for a fresh start
• Built EVERYTHING ourselves with the unwavering support of loved ones
• Simultaneously applied for grants and led programming

And so much more – a testament to the power of what women and non-binary youth can achieve when invested in. It’s taken us a year to afford all the furniture, equipment, and materials, but we’re happy to finally launch and begin fully testing this model with our community.

— New here? Our grassroots artist collective called @flauntitmovement designed one of the first 2SLGBTQ+ BIPOC-only creative coworking spaces. We aim to provide inclusive, safe workspaces for women and non-binary artists, activists, and entrepreneurs to thrive. With photo/video studios inaccessible in Northwest Toronto and coworking spaces unaffordable, we crafted a model that invests in our residents’ endeavours. ✊🏿🏳️‍🌈

— The Studio was specifically designed for residents of the Jane-Finch area and its neighbouring communities. Low-income residents can complete a short eligibility form to access discounts. DM us to learn more! 💗

— Grateful for the unwavering support from our community, friends, and family. Tag someone who needs a creative space! #StudioTransformation #CommunityBuilding #diyjourney #torontoworkshop #coworkingtoronto #torontofreelancers #torontoartists #torontobusiness #dukeheightsbia

December 1 was Flaunt-It’s 7th birthday! 🥳💗 Ever since our Visual Anthology launch on November 17, our team has taken time off to rest, readjust and reflect. So, we are now slowly returning to social media but will be slowing down for the year.

2023 has been nothing short of incredible for us. Our team has been growing stronger, as each day makes every event more successful than the last. Although it’s been seven years, it’s only been three since we launched our official programming of having our community events (with @cornercommons), our third internship cohort and the second visual anthology comprising of a magazine AND a hardcover. Most importantly, we opened our Studio to our community. The rapid growth we’ve been experiencing is the byproduct of our youth-led team’s hard work, dedication, passion and talents. And it’s because of all of you.

Thank you for being a part of this movement. Thank you for loving the work we do and for working with us. Thank you for helping us create the opportunities and platforms we all wish we had but now do. Thank you for shaping our community. This reel only showcases a small portion of everything we accomplished this year. doesn’t

We are so proud of everything we achieved as a collective dedicated to inspiring women and non-binary folks to love themselves and with the capacity to hold space + show up for their communities.

Cheers to 7, and here’s to 8 years 🫶🏽 #youthled #womenled #torontobusiness #anniversaryvideo
